Cory nails the real issue here. While people nitpick the judge’s legal wording, they miss the point. Albertans are sick of Ottawa and their Trudeau appointed judges telling them how to run their affairs. Whether for separation or opposed, it’s widely accepted that a Trudeau-appointed judge doesn’t speak for Alberta. Decisions like this only push more people to the “yes” side. Quebec got its referendums. Over 700,000 Albertans signed petitions for the same chance here. No single judge should kill that democratic shot. Premier Smith is right to call this anti-democratic and appeal it so Albertans can actually decide and discuss the question themselves. That’s leadership that puts the people first. That’s the point. That’s the issue.
