With great sadness, we received the news of the passing of Eva Schloss (née Geiringer), an Auschwitz survivor.
Eva was born on 11 May 1929 into a Jewish family in Vienna. In 1938, her family fled to Belgium and later to the Netherlands. She lived in the same apartment building in Amsterdam as Anne Frank. The two girls, only a month apart in age, were sometimes playmates between the ages of 11 and 13.
In 1942, both girls went into hiding in an attempt to evade the persecution and arrest of Jews in Amsterdam.
In May 1944, Eva’s family was captured by the Germans after being betrayed by a double agent within the Dutch underground and deported to Auschwitz. Her father and brother did not survive. Eva and her mother were barely alive when they were liberated by Soviet troops.
After the war, they returned to Amsterdam, where they reconnected with Otto Frank, whom Eva’s mother later married.
Eva eventually settled in London, where she married Zvi Schloss. She authored several books and was a co-founder of the Anne Frank Trust in the United Kingdom.
Eva Schloss passed away on 3 January 2026.

She stood with Israel for two years.
She stood with the hostages for two years.
She stood with the Jewish people for two years.
She stood with moral clarity for two years.
She deserves all the love in the world.
You’re a hero. 🤍

I am deeply saddened to share the passing of Rabbi Alvin Kass, our Chief Chaplain, and one of the longest-serving members of the New York City Police Department.
Rabbi Kass joined the NYPD in 1966, at the age of 30, becoming the youngest chaplain in the Department’s history. Nearly six decades later, he remained its spiritual heart — a source of strength, guidance, and faith for generations of police officers and their families.
A U.S. Air Force veteran and Columbia graduate, Rabbi Kass devoted his life to service, to this city, and to the women and men of the NYPD. He comforted the grieving, counseled the troubled, and reminded all of us of the deeper purpose in what we do.
He was among the first to respond after 9/11, consoling the families of the 23 officers we lost that day. And for more than half a century, he stood beside our members through moments of tragedy and triumph alike.
At every Police Academy graduation, Rabbi Kass offered his familiar blessing — a prayer that New York be “a place where people of every race, religion, color, and creed can pursue their individual destinies untrammeled, unafraid, and in obedience to Thy will.”
Today, that prayer belongs to all of us. And as we carry his words forward, we know he will still be watching over the city and the Department he loved.
His loss is immeasurable. His example is everlasting.
May his memory be a blessing.

I can't believe what I've just watched.
A Jewish lawyer wearing a Star of David was arrested after the police alleged the symbol had "antagonised" pro-Palestine protesters.
He was handcuffed and detained by police for almost TEN hours. DISGUSTING!
Shame on you @metpoliceuk.

The Israeli Govt should create an award to honour the many valiant non Jews who not only stood by the hostages but fought heroically in extreme circumstances to keep the hostages in the forefront.
I can think of no better recipient than @PreislerKa
Who would your nominees be?
