A real apology

@LVpolitic When you refer to other humans you respect, do you call them a species? No, because that reduces them and strips away their humanity. Acknowledging that humans are a species is obvious, and among people we don’t usually need to state the obvious.

I acknowledge that Coach Sandy Brondello has apologized, but calling Angel Reese a “protected species” was still deeply problematic. No person—let alone a Black woman—should ever be referred to as an animal in any way.

So many young girls can learn from how @Reese10Angel stands up for herself.

There is a lot of work with unconscious bias that needs to be done in the league and with reporting, and this is a good place to start.

It’s also important to recognize that Angel Reese has historically been anything but “protected.” She’s been over-officiated and is now just one technical foul away from a suspension. It’s unfair that she even had to address this at all—she deserves fairness, respect, and accountability on and off the court.
