During the biggest pandemic in 100 years, Doug Ford’s PC gov’t left it to volunteers to create a system to locate life-saving vaccines. Less than 3 days into the #LCBO strike, his gov’t has made and launched an interactive map to locate alcohol anywhere in Ontario.

#ONpoli NEW: Doug Ford government pre-arranged Google advertising for their new alcohol finder website. Yet another sign that they pre-planned the LCBO strike.

Governments are always struggling to find revenue streams. The LCBO generates $2.5 billion in annual revenue. It is a revenue producing asset - no wonder private corporations are clamouring to get their greedy little hands on it. But this isn’t in the public interest - and the government needs to represent and uphold the public interest. That’s the job. Let’s not make the same terrible mistake Harris made with the 407 toll-highway - sold to a private consortium for $3 billion; today it’s worth over $30 billion. I’m hearing folks say liquor privatization won’t matter because businesses pay taxes on sales. Unfortunately that’s not true. LCBO generates revenue-not just tax proceeds-that make up that $2.5B. Loblaws isn’t going to hand over their profit to fund healthcare and education.
