This is a good opportunity to put a boycott in practice. We all know that PlayStation isn't going back on the decision to discontinue physical media. Making noise online is important, but not enough to affect the company. Now the only thing to do is boycott the company with our wallets so that in future revenue reports, even if it doesn't decrease, the data stagnates (which goes completely against their goal). So the advice is: 1 - Avoid digital game purchases on the PS Store as much as possible. Opt to buy the physical version. 2 - Restrict digital consumption on the PS Store only to content that doesn't have a physical option, such as story DLCs or if the game really doesn't have a physical option, e.g., God of War: Sons of Sparta. Also, avoid unnecessary cosmetic purchases such as skins, in-game currency, battle passes, etc. 3 - Don't subscribe to the extra or premium tiers of PS Plus; remember that this is their focus and main goal. If you need access to cloud saves or multiplayer, the essential tier is sufficient. Or, if you don't care cloud saving and multiplayer, just don't subscribe at all, which is even better. Remember that the your goal is to boycott the company, but this shouldn't happen at the expense of your enjoyment. In short: You don't need to stop consuming the brand completely, just hit the company on key points. In this case, worse than a company's revenue decreasing is its stagnation, because that way the company will know that you are not spending (investing) in it, unlike when you are not in its database so it doesn't even know you exist.

Below is a list of @PlayStation accounts on X. It appears that PlayStation may be posting over multiple accounts to water down the negative responses from gamers to give the appearance of a waning campaign. If so, it’s professional-level stuff. Corporations pay PR people big bucks to handle these kind of backlashes. @PlayStation_LA @PlayStationFR @PlayStation_jp @PlayStationUK @PlayStationEU @PlayStationES @PlayStationSA #BoycottSony #BoycottPlaystation #physicalgamesforever #PhysicalGamesMatter #PhysicalMediaForever @Sony #HoldTheLine

💪🏼 SAVE THE DISC 📀 SAVE VIDEOGAMES

The backlash against Sony appears to be losing momentum. > Many PlayStation posts initially received 100,000+ protest replies. > Recent posts are reportedly seeing closer to 10,000. > As time passes, it seems many players have started to move on. For now, it looks increasingly unlikely that Sony will reverse its decision to phase out physical games. #Sony #Playstation #PS6

In my case, this is what I intend to do: 1 - For the next few months, I will not buy digital content from the PS Store, except redeemable content that comes with physical games I already bought, such as codes for skins, bonuses, or in-game items. 2 - After that, I will continue buying full games physically whenever a physical edition exists. I will only buy digital games when there is genuinely no physical option, or in the case of story DLCs for games I already own physically. As for PS Plus, I don’t think everyone should cancel it blindly. If you barely use multiplayer, cloud saves, or the catalogue, then yes, canceling or not renewing makes sense. But if you still use online features or rely on cloud saves, maybe the better option is to downgrade instead of canceling completely. For example, if you have PS Plus Extra or Deluxe, consider dropping to Essential instead of renewing the higher tiers. That way, you keep online multiplayer and cloud saves, but stop supporting the digital catalogue model Sony seems to be pushing so hard. What I don’t recommend is rage-selling your console or forcing yourself to stop playing games you enjoy. That may feel good at the moment, but it also makes the protest harder to sustain. Most of us are protesting because we care about PlayStation, not because we want to leave it. The strongest message we can send is simple: - Buy physical whenever possible. - Avoid digital full-game purchases when a physical edition exists. - Do not pre-order digitally. - Avoid unnecessary microtransactions, cosmetics, and in-game currency. - Do not reward Sony with automatic renewals if you are unhappy. - Downgrade PS Plus if you still need the basic features, but do not keep paying for higher tiers just out of habit. This needs to be a disciplined protest, not just an emotional reaction. Sony needs to understand that physical players are not people who will automatically become digital-only customers. We are long-time fans, collectors, and loyal customers, but loyalty does not mean accepting every bad decision silently. I don’t want to leave PlayStation. I don’t want to sell my console. I don’t want to stop enjoying the games I love. But I also don’t want to support the end of physical media with my money. So my message is this: protest, but do it smartly. Don’t hurt your own enjoyment more than you hurt Sony’s revenue. Keep playing, but spend with intention. We are not asking for digital to disappear. We are asking for physical media not to be killed entirely. We are asking for a choice.

One analyst suggested that even if half a million people cancelled their PlayStation Plus subscription in protest of Sony killing discs, it would be just a drop in the ocean for the company — which is not going to change its mind. bit.ly/4wRfo4P
