Moe, the tiny stick-wielding bodyguard of Punch, holding that stick like she’s ready to warn off any bully. 🥰
She even steps in to fight and lets him ride on her back… just like a mother protecting her child.
It’s such a pure, emotional bond her small body, but such a big, protective heart. 🥺🐒🐵✨

We’ve also prepared a summary for our overseas friends! 🥰
📹 Summary
This is a casual audio commentary by the zookeepers.
• Right after birth (Day 2) photo
“He’s so cute, isn’t he? This is day 2 since Punch was born. His body was dirty, so I took the photo after cleaning him up. He was incredibly light, but he was energetic and had the strength to move a bit. You could really feel his vitality.”
• Growth process
“His body has gotten a little bigger, so Punch has become stronger. We’re catching him and playing around. He’s practicing walking. He’s still so small that he gets anxious when I leave his side and follows me around.”
“Around the time we started spending nights together, he wasn’t scared of music or surprised by it yet.”
• Selfie scene
“I tried taking a photo of Punch with the front camera. When he saw his own reflection, he went ‘What is this?’ and kept opening and closing his mouth. That’s how monkeys communicate with each other.”
• Milk & Playtime
“He still can’t sit up properly, so I support him while he drinks milk. Punch has gotten quite good at it now. He’s started walking on his own and playing on the chair to build muscle strength. The stuffed animal has become his favorite toy.”
• Favorite monkey
“He seems to like the monkey on the left. Whenever that one passes by, Punch gets a little closer. That monkey is gentle, so Punch probably feels it’s safe to be around.”
• Joining the troop
“He started eating the same food in the same space while holding his stuffed animal. I felt like he had grown up a lot. The first time he was hugged by another monkey was very moving. It gave us hope. I hope he’ll start clinging to the other monkeys instead of the stuffed animal from now on.”
• Photo & Interactions
“This photo was taken after scattering the midday feed. Punch happened to be facing us, holding his stuffed animal—it’s a very symbolic picture of him. After some time, he started interacting with more monkeys. At first it was with older ones, but then the younger monkeys realized Punch wasn’t scary. Japanese macaques often play with others of the same age.”
• Naptime & Feeding
“When sleeping, he holds the stuffed animal for security, so he sleeps like that. During feeding time, he climbs up, clings on, and eats from the bucket. He’s skillfully picking out the apples (he’s not really into carrots, it seems 😂).”
