@RealCarlVernon If its "out of control" (Hancock) we should impose enforced lockdown or the govt is clearly negligent. If its not as bad as they say, then we've been misled which means the govt is clearly negligent. When an opposition can't see this then we are lost.

@JuliaHB1 If SAGE is so smart how come they have managed to fk the economy and deliver one of the highest per capita death rates in the world, in parallel? This alone says we need more scrutiny, other options & contributions. Until this happens, our doubt filter will, rightly, be active.

There are now 46,000 NHS staff off with Covid. This is a direct result of the government choosing *not* to make staff first priority for vaccines. Quite apart from how devastating that decision was for NHS morale (are we, basically, expendable?) it was also staggeringly stupid.

Hancock not ruling out further lockdown measures. But how many levers does govt have left? Nurseries? Cap on exercise? Shut click and collect retail? Curfew? It’s a small pool.

The case has not been made. The cost-benefit analysis has not been done. The evidence for lockdowns has not been presented. The evidence against lockdowns has been ignored. The onus is on those who want to take away our fundamental freedoms to justify their actions.
(((Dan Hodges)))@DPJHodges

Lockdown-sceptics saying "you must make the case for lockdown". It's been made. It has cross party support. It's supported by the vast majority of health/scientific professionals. It has huge public support. If you oppose, fine. But the onus is now on you to present alternatives.

@BorisJohnson Perhaps your party should not have underfunded the NHS for 10yrs then? Perhaps that £350m a week you promised them can be put to good use now? Alternatively you might just be an incompetent liar, scrambling from day to day without conscience. Let's see. Actions beat words.

Our hospitals are under more pressure than at any other time since the start of the pandemic, and infection rates continue to soar at an alarming rate. The vaccine rollout has given us renewed hope, but it’s critical for now we stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

@SirJJQC @JolyonMaugham I've said repeatedly on here the gears of governance versus the gears of technology/private sector and now grinding against each other to such an extent that the MO of one or other has to be reformed if we are to avoid chaos. Hint: it won't be the private sector or tech.

@RealJoelSmalley Surely an Eton educated cabinet is saying to hancock and sage "how are we doing so badl? "... They can either investigate the test and admit the error (vonc would ensue) or keep on with the worst death rate on the planet (vonc would ensue). The end is nigh for them either way.

Was the decision to shut schools partly due to intense pressure & lobbying from some members of SAGE, unions and the press? If so, it was an act of political cowardice. But either way, the decision should be reversed as a matter of urgency. #usforthem

The big news about this NEJM piece is that it’s not really news, being consistent with what we already knew: when schools are open teachers do not seem to face higher risks relative to other professions whilst school children seem to be at very low risk nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

UK & US both suffer their worst day of the covid pandemic at the same time. Two countries led by populist blustering bullsh*tters who never took it seriously enough & whose handling of the crisis has been absolutely appalling from start to finish.

@RichardBurgon There's these people (protect everyone-not possible) and there's the hoaxers (not credible).. All I am asking for is some sense of balance, something in the middle, led by consensus and debate and detail and nuance. Is that really too much to ask? To save lives and livelihoods?

Very worrying reports that more workers are having to go to work during this lockdown than in the March one. Yet the new virus variant requires tougher action this time. This is an emergency. All non-essential workers who can’t work from home should be furloughed at 100% pay.
