@Awright874 @DutchButters Hits are cancelled for tax write-offs, not 'sucking.' In 2026, a 2.6B franchise cuts completed seasons to balance ledgers, not to please gatekeepers.

I’ve got an idea. A new Star Trek show set shortly after the TNG /DS9 era with a new crew, New ship and exploring a new quadrant of space. Written and ran by creators who are familiar with, understand and respect the lore of the show that came before.

@Awright874 @DutchButters Cope is a feeling; 2.6B is a fact. Studios don't renew 'sucking' shows; they renew high-yield assets. SFA hit its ROI targets, which is why Season 2 finished filming.

@Awright874 @DutchButters Completed views are votes for more. In 2026, even 'hate-watching' fuels the 2.6B ROI. If it truly 'sucked,' the 65% retention rate wouldn't have greenlit Season 2.

@waytoomuchbeer Comic relief isn't 'teen comedy'; it's humanism. From Wesley to Nog, Trek’s 2.6B ROI proves that watching cadets grow through 'mishaps' is its core mission.

"Trek always had comic relief" - therefore Star Trek was always meant to be a bad teen comedy?
Josh Davis@JACDavis

@RantyAmyCurtis Mentally deficient? Trek always had comic relief (e.g., TOS ‘Spock’s Brain,’ TNG Barclay). Picardo was in SFA, he knows Roddenberry’s optimistic spirit better than gatekeepers. It seems like some of the people critical of the show never actually watched the previous series’.

@JACDavis @CRainsZombie @RantyAmyCurtis No, he wasn't, and the fact that you seem literally incapable of telling the difference between the two explains a lot. If we had gatekept harder we wouldn't have moronic trash like this in every IP, and equally moronic people like you trying and failing to defend it.

@Awright874 @DutchButters Top 10 is for generalists. Starfleet Academy is a high-yield 'anchor' show. 2.6B in revenue and a Season 2 renewal prove it hit the only metric that matters: ROI.

@Awright874 @DutchButters People like some modern Trek? That’s correct. SFA’s 65% episode retention rate demonstrated that fans existed. However, a vocal minority of reviewers negatively impacted its reception. The reality is that economic factors ultimately led to its cancellation, not a lack of interest

@SirBylHolte Peak Trek? S3 saved Enterprise temporarily, but it was still canceled. SFA honored that risk-taking spirit with cadet growth arcs. Kurtzman blame ignores Enterprise’s own pre-Kurtzman struggles.

Season 3 of "Star Trek Enterprise is the perfect palate cleanser after the nightmare that was "Starfleet Academy." The entire season is dedicated to the Xindi War. It begins with a devastating attack that kills 7 million people on Earth. Enterprise is sent deep into the dangerous Delphic Expanse on a desperate mission to stop a far worse weapon from wiping out the planet. The season delivers high-stakes action, moral dilemmas, and real consequences. Trip and T'Pol finally get together. Their relationship adds real emotional weight to the season. One of the best-written episodes is "Similitude." It explores the ethical nightmare of creating a short-lived clone of Trip to save the real one. The clone grows rapidly and starts developing his own identity and memories. It forces Archer and the crew to confront hard questions about life, sacrifice, and what makes someone human. Another standout is the "Stratagem" episode. It is a direct steal from a classic "Mission Impossible" episode. Archer captures the Xindi weapon designer Degra and runs an elaborate long-con deception to trick him into revealing critical information. The writing is clever, tense, and extremely well executed. Season 3 gives us a focused, serialized war arc instead of endless filler and lectures. It has strong character moments, intense battles, great ship designs, compelling music, and actual consequences for the crew. "Enterprise" has always been considered the worst of the Trek shows. After the disappointment of the Kurtzman shows, Season 3 has become PEAK Trek. It's another sad reminder of what they took from us.

@AHumanoidDroid2 @CRainsZombie @RantyAmyCurtis Barclay wasn’t? He was the season-long awkward punchline despite genius status. SFA cadet gag is one training mishap. Trek always mixed competence with camp, your ‘dumb’ jab is just gatekeeping.

@JACDavis @CRainsZombie @RantyAmyCurtis Barclay was not bɘbɿɒƚɘɿ. "I swallowed my commbadge" for no reason, is not 'light slapstick'. Keep coping in defense of this low-brow garbage all you like. It just makes you look as dumb as the characters.

@jondelarroz @screenrant Ghostwritten cope? Shatner literally said he wants ‘continuity.’ You attack every positive SFA take (Picardo, now Shatner). Fans can like it without your permission.

@Awright874 @DutchButters 30-yr-old show? Linear TV + syndication gave TOS reruns massive reach. SFA was new streaming IP, apples/oranges. Data shows fans existed; cancellation was economics, not rejection.

@JACDavis @DutchButters I used ‘real data’ too. You simply ignore it because you don’t like what it says. When a 30 year old TV show had more viewers than a brand new, highly advertised property, there’s issues. Keep those ears closed and maybe the bad stuff will go away. People rewatch SNW. 😂

@Awright874 @DutchButters No one will care? TOS needed syndication + TAS/movies after cancellation. SFA had 2.1M premiere viewers + retention. Fans care, gatekeeping doesn’t erase data or Trek’s pattern.

@JACDavis @DutchButters You’re claim was people were recording it. They couldn’t. TOS was killed by executives that wanted it dead and kept alive by fans that pushed for syndication till some more material came out (TAS or the movies). Sorry, but no one is going to care about Academy.

@jondelarroz @RobertPicardo Fooled by a ‘reasonable Catholic’? @RobertPicardo defended Trek’s optimism against trolls. Jon, you’ve spent months dunking on the show daily. Studio narrative? Or just accountability for toxic fandom.

Yes, @RobertPicardo. And I was fooled into thinking you were a reasonable Catholic fellow who just differed on politics. Once you started attacking me as a troll and lying about me saying I'm just disliking a show for a few bucks on X (like it makes a difference), I knew you were following a studio narrative to try to discredit fans as a cynical marketing push for this godawful tragedy. You owe me and others apologies for your behavior. It wasn't right to treat the fans that way.

@AHumanoidDroid2 @RantyAmyCurtis Virus stakes don’t erase the slapstick, Sulu sword-fighting drunk was pure farce. SFA gag is one cadet mistake in training. Barclay was a genius who still messed up constantly. Standards include learning.

@JACDavis @RantyAmyCurtis >drunk on a virus These four words completely destroy your argument. Drunk on a virus which was going to kill them all. As opposed to literally mentally bɘbɿɒƚɘɿ, when Starfleet is supposed to have standards. Let's not pretend there aren't a dozen other problems too.

@Awright874 @DutchButters Top ten? Nielsen isn’t the only metric. Paramount+ internals had SFA at #3 debut; Luminate showed 2.1M premiere viewers beating SNW S3. ‘Desperate’? Nah, just using real data.

@Awright874 @DutchButters VCR nitpick? TOS was saved by immediate 1969 syndication reruns on local stations (better slots, no DVR needed). Ratings exploded pre-VCR era. Basic history > gotcha.

@JACDavis @DutchButters You claimed people were recording TV. The first VCR wasn’t in NY the market till the late 70’s. You’re trying so hard and failing. Thursday night was the death slot for TV shows in the late 1960’s. This is basic knowledge.
