Mets fans complain that they are tired of losing that it's been 40yrs since they last won a WS and want to see a championship. Yet those same fans are still crying over a core that never won anything and supporting below average players like Vientos or Baty. So what is it?
@bigdog44K Yup. All that talk about not wanting to sign free agents long term because our farm system is so good was a load of crap. We don’t have one young guy right now who can play everyday.
You’re either going to have to take someone else’s problem or you’re going to have to trade an asset. (Baty, Vientos & Alvarez have no value anymore). So Benge? An almost MLB ready prospect? Going to have to overpay to make a panic move to save “The Plan”.
Speaking to reporters in Baltimore today, Pete Alonso said the Mets’ winter overhaul didn’t catch him off guard, as the Orioles quickly emerged as one of the first teams to pursue him in free agency, ultimately building toward what he called “a match made in heaven.”
The Mets showed little interest and never extended an offer, a detail that became relevant when Brandon Nimmo reached out to Alonso in November as he weighed uncertainty about his future in New York. At the time, Nimmo was in limbo after being told by David Stearns that a potential trade with the Rangers would go through if he waived his no-trade clause, prompting him to seek advice from a longtime friend and former Mets teammate.
During that conversation, Nimmo told Alonso, “I really want to be teammates with you.”
Alonso recalled his response:
“I’m like, ‘Listen, they haven’t talked to me at all,’ ” Alonso said. “I’m like, ‘I want to be teammates with you, too, buddy. But listen, this is just where we’re at. They haven’t reached out [to me] at all. You have to do what’s best for your family.’
“Everything just unraveled from there.”

@GoodFundies I don’t care that Nimmo is gone. Never thought much of him. But I can’t believe tha Stearns thought Semien was a viable replacement. What a joke
The Mets sent $5M with Nimmo in the deal. The time-value of money is such that $20M owed in five years has a smaller "net present value" today. Paying $80M over three years to Semien is, financially, very similar to paying $95M over five to Nimmo.
I need a few of you to understand that even if Brandon Nimmo is meh the rest of the year and finishes at like .250/.340/.420 and 2-2.5 WAR, it was still a bad trade. The money owed to Semien is like 93% of what was owed to Nimmo, and Semien will be lucky to deliver a single win.
Another flop from Atreyu. Album is a 4/10. The sound is so different from who they were. They should rename the band. That might help them. #thisisnottheend
@nickythegood One guy people haven’t talked about or at least not that I’ve seen is Marte. I think losing him was big. For the culture mostly. Veteran, good vibes guy and was a clutch hitter. We don’t have any leaders. Our best players are new to the team and look homesick.
@LindorSZN We had it man, all Stearns had to do was keep the 24 roster together and add a bat. That was it. Instead he let all the culture guys walk. 2 starting pitchers and all the bench guys. Then he doubles down and tears it apart more this past offseason
@NYPost_Brazille I know baseball isn’t football but Mendy has no fire. There are times he should’ve ripped someone or the umpire and he just sits there. His lineups are bad. And whether his fault or not the roster is lifeless. Do I think it helps? Probably not. But it definitely won’t hurt.
I just don’t see the benefit of firing Mendoza if I’m the #mets. Look at the current roster. Hard to fault him. A new manager is going to make these guys perform better? I don’t see it. 340 million or so was just not spent wisely.
Bases loaded in the first and eighth, less than two outs both times. No runs.
The offense is anemic. That’s the story of the season so far. Pretty simple.
I know Stearns has to be the one obsessed with R vs L line ups. What good is it to have to right handed batter who can’t hit. We have a $340 mil. Payroll and we’re playing Tommy Pham?! This is pathetic. #lgm
I won't be surprised if the Cowboys just stick-and-pick with their next three selections.
They need to add depth at LB/TE/DT/CB.
Don't see them giving up multiple picks for just one player.
Devin Williams is an absolute liability. He has nothing to over power hitters. Not a lot of movement. Not very crafty. How is he a closer. And how did we sign him instead of backing up the brinks truck for Diaz. #lgm
@TeamThirstTrap Some parts needed to go. But they needed to be upgraded. Stearns let players go and didn’t upgrade. This is just bad in a different way
hypothetically- if the mets ran it back with the core (like the phillies did) and currently had their record (8-15), what would we be blaming stearns for?
