In 2025, you’d think they could just send a push notification to your mobile app that you can accept once you’re logged in to verify your identity- as other banks currently do. They won’t even tell me why my card is frozen. Absolutely terrible.

Never had as bad of an experience with a bank, as I’ve had with @cibc so far. As a new immigrant, you’d think it’d be pretty simple but it’s been nothing but headaches. To top it off, they’ve had my card frozen/locked since last week so I couldn’t even pay rent or buy anything.

The girl at the counter said she’ll call into their team and do voice verification, since I didn’t have my documents I opened the account with (passport/COPR). Okay, that’s reasonable. They say no, we can’t do it that way. I’m left with a frozen card, no access to my own money..

Found this out the hard way when I tried getting groceries. I stop by a CIBC branch yesterday (Saturday) to try and fix this. I had my permanent resident card, and a drivers license from my home country, figuring that should be enough to confirm my identity. Nope.. guess not..

She then tells me I need to go into a CIBC branch. No other info. I’m like.. what is going on?? Can I use my card in the interim? She tells me.. “I can’t discuss your card over the phone.” Wtf? So go to find out, I cannot use my card. Completely frozen.

So when I finally get connected with an agent, it’s so hard to understand her. But after being put on hold a few times, she transfers me to someone else. This new person wants to verify my identity, asking me different questions.. ok, that’s fine. Done.

I called support, while I wait the automated message tells me there’s fraudulent activity, and to approve/deny the transaction that’s texted to me (none was). There was also nothing out of the norm in my transactions, I was logged in and reviewing them..
