'As complaints lead, I am spending hours of my time, ironically time which could be better spent seeing patients and improving access, dealing with the outpouring of vitriol about matters which GPs often have little control over,' says @ShabaNabi bit.ly/3bzkluY

When someone who doesn’t drink alcohol, politely declines a beer and ask for a soft drink etc, don’t say “oh go on, just the one…” or probe and make things awkward for them. We would never do that with any other drug. Just accept it and be kind. #sobriety #alcoholfree

Trying to get my head around sending people seeking asylum to Rwanda to be processed and saying it’s for their own safety A country that has a questionable human rights record Whilst at the same time demonising them by calling them “illegals” I just can’t, it’s grotesque

‘A patient recently asked me when the practice was going to open again. I replied that I was, at that moment, seeing them face to face in my consulting room. ‘I know’ they replied ‘but you know what I mean’ @SatiHeerStavert The power of a media narrative bjgplife.com/the-invisible-…

EVERY evening: Husband: You always say you’re tired, why not just go to bed early? Me: I know but I need more de-stress time… Hus: Your tiredness IS making you more stressed so it makes sense to go to sleep! Me: But my brain wants rest AND play time Anyone relate?! 😬

The highs and lows of #GP This evening, went from managing an emergency successfully, to being told I had missed a diagnosis, resulting in significant disability. Amazing how the latter overshadows the former. We are in desperate need of support for these adverse incidents

@silv24 I agree it’s often committed people who burn out.

I’m sorry but I completely disagree. As someone who was horribly burnt out earlier this year and had 3 weeks off work - the one thing it has cemented is the need to actually have a proper work life balance and value time away from work.
Joel M. Topf, MD FACP@kidney_boy

In my experience the people that are in medicine as a job are the ones that get burned out. People that are mission driven and are not counting the minutes until they can go home are the happiest most fulfilled.

I get asked this question by friends and family: “What do GPs do all day?”. As a hospital doc, it’s important that I support my Primary Care colleagues. @HelenRSalisbury writes some answers here in the @bmj_latest. Link if preferred: bmj.com/content/375/bm…

It’s my last day today as a GP Partner #teamgp #medtwitter. I have been a partner for 13 years but time to move on for my own health and well being. I have seen so many changes but I have never seen primary care with this level of demand, pressure and denigration in the press….

Any other GPs despairing? In 4 weeks, I have only had one patient who has done a PCR test in response to COVID symptoms. People are doing lateral flow tests when symptomatic. There is a desperate need for public education! @NikkiKF @rcgp @sajidjavid @DHSCgovuk @NHSBSolCCG
