In this video, Dr Nina Riggins interviews Dr Zixuan Alice Zhang and Professor Messoud Ashina about their publication in Cephalalgia, selected as the Editor’s Choice for the April issue.
The study examined whether blocking hyperpolarisation-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channels with ivabradine could modify KATP-induced migraine in humans or hypersensitivity in mice.
The main finding: ivabradine failed to modify KATP-induced migraine in humans or hypersensitivity in mice.
This suggests that hyperpolarisation-activated cyclic nucleotide-gated channels are unlikely to be key downstream mediators, while vascular-to-neuronal signalling may be important in migraine initiation.
