Really enjoyed supporting this work. Engaging with farmers to find out their thoughts on a rapidly developing and really exciting topic. Will be one core factor in the transition to a more resilient and sustainable food system 🌾

“Globally, 84% of farms are less than 2 ha in size. Many policymakers and scientists argue that smallholdings outperform large industrial operations — which provide the bulk of the world’s food — on a range of environmental and socioeconomic measures.” nature.com/articles/d4158…

Really enjoyed taking part in this thought provoking event discussing the urgent need for nature positive agriculture. And great to see such an emphasis on the role of farmers! Lots to takeaway. Thanks again @wbcsd #LDMeeting21

Shortly as part of #WorldWaterDay with @wbcsd I’ll be sharing how this project is shaping the core of our operations. And despite a challenging year how the team @ICRISAT @icrisat_idc @AsiaSolidaridad have already had an impact on behaviour and perceptions of water 💧

#WorldWaterDay💧 Despite #COVID19, our #CSR project with @Natemswelfare continued to build #waterharvesting structures in #Telangana, India, ensuring adequate water for >2000 farmers to farm and do allied activities. #valuingwater #watershed icrisat.org/icrisat-natem-…

A Surprise in Africa: Air Pollution Falls as Economies Rise Why? Reduction in biomass burning by farmers . And mention of further research needed to understand related social and economic impact. (But no mention of what caused the reduction). nytimes.com/2021/02/08/cli…

For food (eg) there are studies that show "going local" can benefit smallholders and eco-systems. Important to take this knowledge to understand and define how local resilience approaches connect with macro efforts. Could lead to more targeted investments theguardian.com/environment/20…

1.7% of climate finance for small-scale producers who produce 50% of the world’s calories. A lot more research needed on what is required, role of Gov, SME/MSMEs who may better understand local realities, how finance relates to resilient farmers and agency. What will it enable?
International Fund for Agricultural Development@IFAD

How much of global investments in #climateaction goes to small-scale farmers in developing countries? Not enough - and the world needs to do better. ifad.org/en/web/latest/…

Looking forward to sharing our experiences and challenges in developing theories and methodologies on building resilient human and ecological systems on a micro/local level with smallholders. And how digital innovation can help us over come obstacles to implementation 💧🌾♻️

Couldn’t agree more Important to recognise water be cannot valued in the same way as other resources (e.g carbon). A commodity for WS is first and foremost a source of livelihood for eg a farmer. Link to wider discussion on redefining VALUE and greater investment into communities
💧🌏 Alexis Morgan@alexisjmorgan

First: Water is not a commodity. It is a fundamental human (& nature) right. Second: Let's harness these trends to help drive capital INTO areas that need water investment. We need to see this as an opportunity. Third: #WaterGovernance @Stuart_Orr @WWFLeadWater @WWFWaterRisk

"Small-scale and farmer-led irrigation systems are often more efficient than large-scale projects, the report found." Another report emphasising the need to directly invest in farmers and communities. Couldn't agree more! theguardian.com/environment/20…
