Oh SNAP! We are over the #Moon to announce we will be commissioning the first #AtomProbe facility in #Scotland thanks to generous funding from @EPSRC. The Space Nanomaterials Atom Probe (SNAP) will provide #atomic scale insights into #AdvancedMaterials.

@lithologuy Such a shame that the publishing system makes excellent scientists feel this way! Loads of journals would love to review your paper, and judge it solely on scientific merit :)

#Apollo17 astronauts landed on the Moon #OTD in 1972. The crew included geologist Harrison Schmitt, the first, and to date, the only scientist to walk on the Moon. While there, he collected the oldest known unshocked Moon rock: Troctolite 76535. It’s at least 4.2 billion years old.

I have never shared one of my favourite micrographs here: A serpentine pseudomorph after carbonate? The mineral with the grey interference colours is serpentine that apparently preserves the cleavage of a pre-existing carbonate.

Thanks @ThePlanetaryGuy for summing up what I've been thinking too. Yes, there is a lot of crap on this site, but with so many people getting their news here, I feel its so important to keep fighting the battle and stick it out. Let's inspire and educate!
