@HomelanderPepe @teameffujoe Right. What’s being asked here, because remember, saving your own life is as simple as pressing red, is what possible distribution of blue pressers can influence the risk aversion of red button pressers, and why?

@JDotUx2 @teameffujoe 1 vote wouldn't make that much a difference though; me pressing red or blue won't change the result for others, but will potentially massively change it for me.

@IamWhiteHeat @MaybeAFish_ @teameffujoe But the prompt doesn’t say “every capable person” or “every person above a certain age.” It says “everybody in the world” which, taken at face value, is a set of every person in the world. Anyway that is the point of the thought experiment, to poke and prod at it just like this.

@JDotUx2 @MaybeAFish_ @teameffujoe then it sounds like your toddler is incapable of casting a vote and you'll need to make the decision on their behalf as is the case in many situations where a child is not yet able to make a sound decision

@Daleykai @teameffujoe Whereas a red majority means each individual instance of dissent is an automatic, albeit small scale, casualty. Framing it this way makes red sound a little authoritarian an outcome and blue a little more democratic lol. Interesting. More intriguing than it appears at face value.

@Daleykai @teameffujoe See, I framed it what are the paths to zero casualties, since this is my preferred outcome. That can be accomplished if everyone presses the same button, red or blue (highly unlikely). From there, blue can withstand up to 49.9% dissent before (catastrophic) casualties.

Joe Redden | The Older Millennial
In case you were looking for evidence that the majority of people on this app are actually fucking retarded… The original question was. If everyone on earth had to choose to push a red or blue button, where everyone who pushed the red button were guaranteed to lived and anyone who pushed the blue button needed at least 50% of humanity to push it for them to live… WE HAVE HUNDREDS OF COMMENTS OF PEOPLE SAYING YOU SHOULD PUSH THE BLUE BUTTON. Yall are fucking retarded.

@TerranovaNoah Lmao I think you underestimate organizational ineptitude. It doesn’t matter whether the players are trying or not, you don’t deserve benefits for failure. It’s a reduction in odds and a more open lottery, it’s not like the relegation teams are eliminated from the lottery process.

A lot of the anti-tanking ideas don’t work because a lot of what you guys are suggesting is under the assumption that the players aren’t trying. Like players aren’t trying to lose games on purpose just so someone 19 year old can take their job

@MaybeAFish_ @teameffujoe You’re unraveling the exact thread I was trying to tug at. One of the conditions that we know is that the vote involves everybody in the world. How does the math change if your toddler’s favorite color is blue?

@teameffujoe @JDotUx2 You’ll never be able to get every single person to press red, while blue only requires half to save everyone What if a loved one decided to press blue? Real life circumstances can change the decision for many MrBeast’s poll shows that most would press blue most likely

@Nerd_Sesh @Carsobi (Apparently) novel idea: teams should be punished for both genuinely sucking and for tanking. I don’t think either of those realities is beneficial to a league that wants to be competitive.

@ObserveTheAbyss @teameffujoe Yeah, that’s the point of the thought experiment. The theoretical best choice is for every person to press the red button. I feel like the dialogue is showing that in practice that choice is likely to guarantee causalities.

@JDotUx2 @teameffujoe reduce it to just you and the two buttons. If you press red nothing happens, if you press blue either nothing happens or you die (there is no positive here, only maybe death). Now extend that to everyone- all you have to do is not be insane for 0% deaths.

@teameffujoe For the blue button to reach zero casualties, only a simple majority is needed, which must be easier to accomplish on a large scale than complete cohesion.

@teameffujoe I feel like what he’s missing is that it’s far more likely to reach zero casualties via the blue button than it is via the red button. Yes, with the red button you are in greater control of guaranteeing your own survival, but also, you almost certainly guarantee casualties.

Hard to say “but the bad teams will stay bad” with NBA’s proposed lottery reform. The Wizards haven’t hit 50 wins in a season since 1979. I’m guessing they’ve had plenty of chances to get good in that stretch lol

@JustEsBaraheni You’ve made too many assumptions about the draft. It doesn’t exist so the worst of the worst get the best players. Its purpose is to distribute incoming talent equitably. Which market and whether they have free agency appeal is a non factor.

@sixringsofsteeI How does anyone, especially after watching this season, think this isn’t for the betterment of the league? There is no downside to punishing mediocrity and ending/limiting rewards for uncompetitiveness. “Oh no! Bad teams actually have to be intentional about getting better 😱”

With these new lottery odds the Thunder could land a top 3 pick from the 76ers who made the playoffs And the Wizards who won 17 games could end up at pick 12 How does anyone think this is for the betterment of the league?

@davespier @Tr1ce_H1gh @ShamsCharania The soccer system is absolutely awful lmao, why would you want to emulate that? Bayern, PSG, and Man city win their league 95% of the time, and the Spanish league flips between 2 teams NFL has no lottery and there’s almost no tanking because the bad teams actually improve

The NBA has disclosed to its 30 GMs a singular new anti-tanking reform that expands the draft lottery to 16 teams, flattens odds, and have a relegation zone where the bottom 3 teams are penalized with fewer lottery balls for the No. 1 pick. ESPN details: espn.com/nba/story/_/id…
