It’s actually Canada’s trade agreement with the US, where one of Trump’s sticking points was requiring that Canada cannot discount gas prices with its own oil.
Even if Canada uses its oil reserves it must be market priced.
So yes Canada - you can blame Trump, and should.

We face the same global conditions and oil prices. We even have our own abundant supply. But Liberal taxes on fuel that are picking the pockets of Canadians, who are paying 18% more than our American neighbours. Scrap the Liberal fuel standard tax to give drivers a break at the pumps.

As an immigrant to Canada, I cannot understand how any Canadians who call themselves educated cannot speak a bit of French. Not fluently, but able to exchange a few words and able to read and understand more. It's a mark of an educated person, quite frankly. Part of the problem

To the conservatives suddenly demanding the government "do something" about $2/litre gas:
Canada has vast oil reserves. The problem is policy, not scarcity. But if your solution is Ottawa forcing cheaper fuel on the market, that's not "fighting Trudeau"—that's textbook price controls. That's not capitalism. That's soft communism.
Alberta oil companies didn't spend decades fighting federal overreach just to have the government now dictate their margins for "affordable" gas. They want to sell at market prices, high or low, without politicians playing central planner.
You can't rage against carbon taxes, subsidies, and green mandates as "government distortion" for 11 years... then beg the same government to distort the market in the opposite direction when it hurts your wallet.
So which is it?
Capitalism: let supply, demand, investment, and pipelines decide the price. (Build more, regulate less.)
Or communism lite: government steps in to "help" with price caps, windfall taxes, or forced cheap oil.
Pick one. You don't get to cosplay as free-marketeers until the pain hits, then pivot to central planning when it's convenient.
Canada's energy mess was caused by politicians overriding markets. More politics won't fix it.
