Last night, the Stepinac Community honored some truly great individuals in Stepinac history — Fr. Bellow, John Cahill, Healy Electric, and Coach Jonathan DeMarco. Each of them has made an incredible impact on Stepinac students and the entire school community over the years.
Although I was unable to attend the Gala Celebration due to a family wedding in Virginia, I want to express my sincere gratitude to all of them for their dedication, generosity, and lasting contributions to Stepinac.
I wanted to add a personal note to Coach Jonathan Demarco. I coached Jonathan many years ago & remember his leadership & skills as a player, he was a warrior & played the game the right way. Jon went on to be captain at Wesleyan University Football & have a great career. He was honored by Wesleyan Football recently with a hall of fame induction.
DeMarco would return to Stepinac & take over as the Def Coordinator of the Crusaders for next 22 years.
Jon balanced a very busy family, Financial Career & being a great coach for a high level football program.
Our program changed & grew through out those years. Going from a A program while we enjoyed great success & rose to be a AAA Level & playing teams all over the country.
No one would ever think that was possible.
Coach Demarco always was more than a coach to all of these men. He was a father figure, a mentor & a friend. Always there to help someone whether it was a decision on college or life. Helping so many Stepinac Alumni after graduation, it did not end as the whistle blew on the field. It was a life long bond. We had some great victories during that time with championships 07, 10, 14, 15, 17 . We want to Thank Coach DeMarco for he has done for our school. Thank You for always being there for all of us . The Ultimate Crusader.
