Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra expresses deep concern over reports of large-scale tree felling in Pune, particularly along Ganeshkhind Road, where around 529 trees are set to be affected due to road widening. Many of these are decades- and centuries-old trees, including banyan and umbar species, forming an integral part of the city’s ecological heritage and natural cooling system. While authorities propose replantation of a majority of these trees, environmental experts have highlighted that mature trees (some over 100 to 300 years old) have negligible chances of survival once uprooted. Past experiences from Koregaon Park and Vetal Hill, where transplanted trees have dried up, further raise serious concerns about the effectiveness of such measures. This situation reflects a troubling pattern where urban development is pursued at the cost of environmental sustainability. Large, mature trees cannot be equated with saplings. Their loss directly impacts air quality, temperature regulation, biodiversity, and overall public health. Replacement through plantation drives, especially with poor survival rates, fails to compensate for this irreversible damage. Reports of discrepancies in tree age records, lack of transparency in implementation, and absence of clear accountability for failed replantation efforts further deepen public concern. Instances of tree cutting during late hours and confusion among departments regarding maintenance responsibilities point towards systemic gaps in governance. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra urges authorities to adopt a balanced approach that results in sustainable development marked by environmental protection. Urban planning must prioritise preservation of existing green cover, explore alternative designs that safeguard heritage trees, and ensure transparency and accountability in all related processes. Protecting the natural environment is essential for sustaining life, public health, and the long-term well-being of society. #SaveTrees #Pune #GaneshkhindRoad #UrbanEcology #PublicHealth #EcoProtection #ActNow #ProtectNature

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra, expresses deep concern over the growing crisis in Maharashtra’s public education system, where more than 9,000 schools face serious challenges due to a lack of basic facilities and falling student enrollment. Reports indicate a decline of 1,28,209 students in a single year, with 394 schools recording zero students and over 8,000 schools having fewer than 10 students. The situation reflects severe infrastructure gaps, with 4,346 schools functioning without electricity, 14,867 lacking playgrounds, and 683 schools operating without separate toilets for girls. Additionally, 9,266 schools continue with only one teacher, raising serious concerns about the quality of education and the burden on teaching staff. Such conditions affect children from rural and economically weaker sections. It further deepens the growing inequality in access to education. The widening gap between government and private schools is creating an unjust, two-tier system that perpetuates a system of "haves" and "have-nots," giving rise to class struggle. Quality Education is a fundamental right for all children, regardless of class, caste, or religion. The present crisis calls for urgent and sustained public investment, strengthening of school infrastructure, recruitment of adequate teachers, and focused attention on the needs of marginalized communities. We urge the government to take immediate and concrete steps to restore confidence in government schools and ensure that every child receives quality education with dignity, safety, and equal opportunity. #EducationCrisis #Maharashtra #RightToEducation #PublicEducation #EducationForAll #RuralEducation #India

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra expresses concern over the severe shortage of public drinking water facilities in Mumbai, especially amid rising heatwave conditions. In a city of 1.3 crore people, only 64 out of 91 public water stations are currently operational, highlighting a critical gap in basic civic infrastructure. With multiple heatwave warnings already issued this month, access to safe drinking water is a public health necessity. Those who suffer from this shortage are mostly labourers, street vendors, commuters, and economically weaker sections, who rely on public facilities for their daily needs. The decline of traditional pyaavs, once described as the “greatest service to the poor,” reflects a shift away from welfare-oriented urban planning toward infrastructure that does not adequately serve vulnerable populations. Providing safe, free drinking water in public spaces is a low-cost yet high-impact measure that can protect citizens from heat-related risks and reduce dependence on commercial bottled water. Islam places great emphasis on providing water as an act of charity and service to humanity. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "When a person dies, his deeds end - except for the ongoing charity .…” and in another instance Prophet ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra feels that good governance is the essential foundation for sustainable development. We urge the civic authorities to prioritise the expansion and maintenance of public water stations, especially in high-footfall areas. This should be a high priority job for the government as summer is already here with all its heat and sultriness. #Mumbai #Heatwave #WaterCrisis #PublicHealth #MumbaiHeat #WaterForAll #MumbaiFountain

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra expresses concern over the reported delays in payments under the MGNREGS (now VB-G-RAM-G) scheme, which has led to protests and a walkout in the Maharashtra Assembly. Thousands of farmers and workers across the state continue to face financial distress because of ₹2,800 crore in pending dues and only about ₹1,035 crore released so far. Reports that farmers have constructed assets such as wells (nearly 600 in one constituency) by taking loans expecting payments for their skilled work shows a serious gap by government in welfare-delivery. While payments for unskilled labour have been cleared, the continued delay in skilled wages creates inequality and trust-deficit in the system. The introduction of the SPARSH payment system, requiring coordination between the Centre and State, must not result in prolonged hardship for beneficiaries. Welfare schemes like MGNREGS are meant to guarantee livelihood security, especially in vulnerable regions like Gadchiroli, and delays defeat their very purpose. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra urges the government to ensure time-bound payment of dues, clearance of arrears, and transparent implementation mechanisms. Protecting the dignity and livelihoods of farmers and rural workers is the responsibility of the government which is duty bound to work towards a just and equitable society. #MGNREGS #FarmersRights #WorkersRights #Maharashtra #Gadchiroli #Farmers #StandWithFarmers

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra expresses serious concern over reports from Akole (Ahilyanagar) where, as alleged by MLA Dr. Kiran Lahamate, tribal students in some reputed schools were reportedly made to sit separately from other students, reflecting a deeply troubling form of discrimination in the education system. Such practices, if true, strike at the very foundation of our Constitution, which is built on equality, fraternity, and social justice. Schools are meant to be spaces that nurture dignity and inclusiveness. Students should never be subjected to segregation or treated as inferior based on their social background. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra strongly supports the demand for a thorough and time-bound inquiry, and if these allegations are proven, strict action must be taken against those responsible. The call to review the role of school authorities and ensure accountability of the education system is both necessary and urgent. We stand firmly for the rights and dignity of Adivasi, Dalit, and all marginalized communities, and believe that ensuring equal access to education with respect and dignity is a collective responsibility of both the state and society. Islam firmly upholds the equality and dignity of all human beings. The Qur’an declares: “O mankind, We created you from a single pair… and made you into nations and tribes so that you may know one another. Indeed, the most honoured in the sight of Allah is the most righteous” (Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13). Any form of discrimination or humiliation is against the spirit of justice and human dignity that Islam strongly upholds. #EndDiscrimination #EqualityInEducation #SocialJustice #InclusiveEducation #Tribal

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra is concerned with the news that universities in our state have appointed 193 Professors of Practice, placing Maharashtra among the top states nationwide under the UGC framework. With 1,841 such appointments across India, the trend reflects a policy push to link higher education with industry experience. Industry exposure can help students understand real world challenges and workplace ethics. Maharashtra’s economic base makes such collaboration easier. However, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra is of the opinion that education must not be reshaped only around market priorities. Universities carry a wider responsibility to nurture critical thinking, social justice, and public purpose. We also call for broader inclusion. Expertise should come from public service, cooperatives, social work, labour, and grassroots innovation, not corporate sectors alone. Professors of Practice must remain a supplement, not a substitute, for regular faculty. Public universities still face shortages of permanent teachers, which require urgent attention. Education must serve society, values, and nation building, not narrow economic interests. #HigherEducation #EducationPolicy #PublicUniversities #HolisticEducation

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra stands in solidarity with the tribal farmers marching from Nashik toward Mumbai to seek justice through peaceful means. We support the demands of the farmers: implementation of the Forest Rights Act, issuance of land records, relief from crushing debt, fair access to water, reliable electricity, and affordable public education. These rights already exist in law. What is missing is faithful execution. Why do the farmers have to walk hundreds of kilometres to claim what the Constitution has already given them? It raises serious questions on the way farmers are treated in our state. Repeated assurances without delivery weaken trust in institutions and cause more rural distress. Agrarian justice requires more than policies on paper. It requires timely land titles, social protection in times of crop loss, and strong public services for tribal and rural regions. We urge the Government to act with urgency, honour existing laws, engage sincerely with the marching farmers and restore faith through concrete implementation. #TribalFarmers #ForestRightsAct #AgrarianJustice #FarmersMarch
