@MerrynSW@John_Stepek So more jobs and dividends for the privileged white straight males, destroying the planet, poor governance and less social cohesion it is. What luxuries DEI and ESG were!!
Microsoft lays off DEI team. It isn't "business critical." ESG disappears from job titles. As @John_Stepek and I kept telling you, DEI and ESG were low interest rate luxury goods. That's all. bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…
@Shugah007@julesmchamish@implausibleblog More that you let home intruders take what they want and avoid any violence. It seems to work better for us and our level of gun deaths and violent crime is way lower without guns. Respect your right to all carry assault rifles though. We just won’t be copying based on evidence.
Matt Frei, "President Biden said he wants to ban AR-15s after the shooting at the weekend, do you agree with him?"
Lady with hat, "Absolutely not"
MF, "Why not?"
Lady with hat, "I own AR-15s. I own a pink one, it's really scary"
MF, "How many guns do you have?"
Lady with hat, "More than 20"
MF, "You have more than 20 guns?"
Lady with hat, "Isn't it amazing?"
MF, "What do you do?"
Lady with hat, "I'm a nurse, I work in Dallas, Texas"
MF, "You're a nurse and you won 20 guns"
Lady with hat, "Yes"
@julesmchamish@implausibleblog Similar story in Walmart in Orlando Julie. Stood by the gun counter asking a member of staff where I could buy a bottle of gin and was told they don’t sell alcohol because it was a family store!
@implausibleblog You need to go experience USA. I was in Salt Lake City, Utah, over Christmas. We visited Sheels, the family friendly store with camping equipment, paddle boards, a Ferris wheel and guns. Every type of gun you could possibly want. You can just walk up & hold a gun. Different world
@AliMirajUK Brilliant show today. If you believe in PR then I think you have to vote tactically if your first preference is an outsider and 2nd preference is a possible. Hope to join the conversation another time.
@Jj19778@jeremybear123@MartinSLewis@ITVDebate No insult intended JJ. I just think the Conservatives are insulting those of pension age with a tax cut resulting from their own allowance and triple lock policy at the same time not giving the NHS the funds it needs to meet demand.
@JJHCox@jeremybear123@MartinSLewis@ITVDebate You insult us Just because we draw a pension does not mean we are old. I’m sure you as a ‘young’ person would also prefer a better healthcare. It’s not only the ‘old’ as you so insensitively put it that would benefit
Do you pay tax on the state pension? I've been asked this a lot after last night's @ITVdebate so
- The state pension is, and has always been taxable income.
- The full state pension is currently £11,500/yr
- The standard personal allowance (the amount you can earn before you pay income tax) is £12,570/yr
So if you ONLY get state pension income and nowt else, you won't be taxed currently.
At the last available DWP data of 12.7m people of state pension age in the UK, 8.1m will likely pay income tax as other income took them above the personal allowance. So roughly two thirds of state pensions do already pay tax
@jeremybear123@MartinSLewis@ITVDebate The only reason that (state) pensions are becoming taxable is because personal allowances have been frozen and the triple lock is in place. I’m sure most old people would prefer better healthcare than £2 per week in tax relief.
Because the state pension has traditionally been set at bare subsistence level, many of us took advantage of our employers’ pension schemes. Others took out endowment assurance policies. We were warned what would happen if we didn’t or couldn’t do this.
Hence the 2/3rds of pensioners on modest incomes (below the national average) who have to pay tax. It seems very unfair.
@MerrynSW I totally agree Merryn. I hope someone is successful bringing an unfair contract term claim through the courts so this practice of automatic increases above inflation is exposed for the profiteering it is.
Letter from Virgin. In line with “your terms” our bill is going up RPI plus 3.9%. So 8.8%. A set rise every year like this every year is outrageous. A link to RPI is outrageous (always higher than COI). It’s just outrageous. As I might have said before.
@FelicityHannah Bank of England data suggests that household deposits have barely grown in the last 6 months in sharp contrast to the last few years. Either the cost of living is biting or people are spending, fearful that prices will rise further.
Tomo in #WakeUpToMoney we are taking about consumer confidence - so I was wondering how confident you’re feeling? Are you spending as normal? Holding off on a big purchase? Or maybe you’re seriously into so-called revenge consumption and spending more? Let me know
We’re so excited to launch our transformational partnership with one of the UK’s leading building societies, @CoventryBS! 🧡 💙
Together, we're opening a youth hub, expanding our Helpline and funding innovative programmes to end youth homelessness for good.
This #EmployeeAppreciationDay we took a second to talk about who we appreciate at work and why? We decided to play a quick game of pass-the-phone! Today the phone travelled far and wide but it’s not really a surprise in a workplace like ours. 🤗 💙
