Nadesico is great cause you have a semi serious episode about the shitty admiral trying to keep his position while dealing with the fallout of realising he’s fighting actual humans and not aliens interspersed with the bright cheating subplot from zz but actually funny

@HayaseWarrior Yeah I mean there's a lot (and I mean a lot) to commend Gundam Wing for. Its themes, its complex villains, its ahead-of-its-time stance against remote and autonomous weapons, the way the Gundam pilots were meant to be genocidal but rebelled - all of those are good things.

@JMBM145 I feel like people enter Wing under a disingenuous pretense due to its long-established contention, so I notice people judge Wing off of comparisons to other series rather its own specific direction/merit. Again, annoying Wing glazers don't help matters since they do the same

You know, for years, chuds on forums made me doubt Nadesico. Oh, the dub's shit, they said. It's unfunny, they said. Doesn't make sense, they said. No, Gundam Wing was where it was really at. So imagine how it felt to watch both and discover the exact opposite was true.

@FabrizioGunjap It needs to come back, as a matter of urgency. As the EF has the Jegan, so the Geara Doga should be there to match it, the perfect rivaly between peers.

@MONOCOOMERV3 Wing's good, it just seems in retrospect like a really weird choice to become an unstoppable gateway into Gundam fandom for the US. To the point where it seems even weirder that it had rival fandom with other shows.

@JMBM145 Nadesico is one of my all time faves. I own it on VHS, DVD, and Bluray and played the Sega Saturn games.

@ChillSpartan Yeah, have to say Gundam Wing's punches it up a whole heap of notches. Duo screaming "it's a FAAAKE!" literally five seconds into an attempt at infiltrating OZ is, well, it's in keeping with the whole tone they're going for, glorious chaos. 😊

@HayaseWarrior Yeah, I'm a bit stunned by the impact Gundam Wing had. It's great, the dub is great, but it's splashy and uneven in so many ways. Watching 0083, for example - I'd never guess it was five or so years earlier than Wing.

@JMBM145 Haven't even seen Nadesico yet but I'm betting this will be a two cakes situation where both are great Dunno why those Wing fans are comparing the two in the first place

@MccrystalCian @BJ86491 It really is. I mean, Izumi really stands out because she's someone who's virtually impossible to localise (speaks entirely in Japanese puns) and yet not only do they knock it out the park with her dub, but make her into one of the genuinely tragic characters in the show.

@Tychaios00 Yeah, I can see there are levels of genuine nuance behind Gundam Wing and its characters, but at the same time, it's easily the most histrionic and over the top Gundam series to this point, including G Gundam. It's not that that's a bad thing, it just stood out when I watched it.

@JMBM145 You seem to misunderstand Wing. Heero was always suicidal with guilt and wanted permission to die, Relena noticed it when he tried to bluff her about killing and chases after him because she sees the truth about his situation as a hurting child soldier carrying the weight of fate

Whereas Gundam Wing is just insane at times, with Heero riding the self destruct button like a dead man's switch, Duo being the least covert covert agent to rock a stealth unit, and Relena... Oh my God, Relena, what are you like?

Nadesico is genuinely very funny, has a surprising level of danger and pathos (especially once the twist becomes apparent) and not only has a great EN dub, but is an example of excellent localisation in general. Watch it, you won't regret it.
