Georgia lost by 3 points to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game in 2023 and were left out. They were 12-0 in the regular season.

All the reasons why the state will likely get involved. LSU could lay all of that out and just say hey if you want all of this info then the players should then be considered state employees and are welcome to all of the benefits entitled to state employees including the option to unionize and the state would definitely step in to shut it down because that would mean they are on the hook for employer contributions of the now state employee athletes. I would be lying if I said how this will play out and for the record I do think that everyone of the contracts associated with state funding should be public but I also realize what a quagmire that will create in the sport. I also disagree with exempting these nil deals from state income tax but that’s a rant for another day.

One could argue the amount the players at LSU and other schools are being paid should never be made public unless the money came from state funds. You put the athletes at risk when you advertise how much money they have and make them an easy target.
