JPAC is now JEWISH CALIFORNIA – Our Voice in Sacramento. For more than 50 years, we’ve brought Jewish community institutions together to advocate statewide for safety, dignity, and shared values. As antisemitism and hate rise, Jewish organizations face increased threats, and the services that support our most vulnerable neighbors are increasingly at risk. In this moment, clarity about who we are and how we show up has never mattered more. JEWISH CALIFORNIA reflects who we are today: the nation’s largest statewide coalition of Jewish organizations, speaking with one unified voice. We’re proud to enter this next chapter. Jewish California (formerly JPAC) and 44 Jewish organizations across California sent this letter to the Legislature strongly opposing Assemblymember Garcia's AB 2159. This bill guts AB 715, California’s landmark antisemitism law, applies a lesser standard to antisemitism than every other form of hate, and was introduced without consulting with the Jewish community. See the full letter here: bit.ly/2159letter 👉 You can still take action. Fill out the action alert at bit.ly/WithdrawAB2159 and urge lawmakers to protect Jewish students.

AB 715 was passed unanimously to protect California's Jewish students. Now, a new bill (AB 2159) would roll those protections back, backed by the same groups that opposed AB 715 from the start. Here’s what it would do: ❌ Remove key guidance used to identify antisemitism ❌ Strip safeguards against bias in classrooms ❌ Eliminate professional standards for instruction ❌ Demote the state’s Antisemitism Prevention Coordinator — while leaving other discrimination coordinators untouched At a time when antisemitic incidents continue to rise, California must strengthen, not weaken, its commitment to protecting Jewish students. We must defend AB 715. 🚨 Take 30 seconds to act: tinyurl.com/WithdrawAB2159

🚨 Take Action to Protect Jewish Students in California🚨 Assemblymember Robert Garcia and the California Faculty Association are trying to gut AB 715 – California's landmark antisemitism law. They introduced this bill without consulting with AB 715's authors, the Jewish Caucus, or Jewish California (formerly JPAC). Weakening AB 715 sends a devastating message to Jewish families across California: their protections are negotiable, and their children's safety is simply not a priority. We will not accept that. 👉 Take action now. Fill out the action alert at bit.ly/WithdrawAB2159 and urge lawmakers to protect Jewish students. #CAJewishVoice

We're saddened that Senator Wiener echoed claims made by his leading congressional opponents that Israel's actions in Gaza amount to genocide. 👇 Read our full joint statement.
JCRC Bay Area@SFJCRC

JOINT STATEMENT: ON SENATOR SCOTT WIENER'S USAGE OF THE TERM "GENOCIDE" We are deeply disappointed that Senator @Scott_Wiener posted a video in response to last week’s congressional debate that accuses Israel of committing genocide. We recognize that Senator Wiener has been a strong supporter of the Jewish community throughout the Israel-Hamas war and his many years of public service, and that he has directly experienced antisemitic attacks simply for being Jewish. Unfortunately, Senator Wiener’s newly stated position is both incorrect and lacks moral clarity. The diminishment and weaponization of the term “genocide” in this context has been deeply painful for our community, given our own historical experiences with the Holocaust. Since October 7, 2023, Jews at home and around the world have continued to experience relentless targeting and scapegoating, including acts of deadly violence. All too often, those harboring antisemitic views have used the war to justify their hatred of our community. The devastation throughout this war – including the loss of life in Gaza and Southern Israel – has been felt by us all. Yet framing this conflict in reductionist and inflammatory terms fuels further hostility toward our community. We believe that words matter. We call on the Senator and our elected, civic, and education leaders to recognize and reflect on the consequences of their words in this fraught and polarizing environment. A Joint Statement From: @AJCNorCal JCRC Bay Area @HolocaustJFCS @JPACCalifornia SF Jews in School *This statement is not intended to support or oppose any candidate for public office.*

Notable: Doug Emhoff steps back into the antisemitism/political fray ... He filed an amicus brief supporting a California bill that will create antisemitism trainings for educators and create a statewide antisemitism prevention coordinator, in the face of a legal challenge
