@iankallison Actually - I'll try something other than vinegar :-) apparently it also kills tree roots.

I need some gardening advice. I planted a 10cm beech tree (I think) last autumn. It’s been fine until recently. The ground around it is “bubbling up” - so I suspect mice are tunnelling and eating the roots. Any advice on how to deal with this?

@iankallison Thanks Ian - I think I'll pour some vinegar around the area of the root ball. There's definitely mice there - I've seen them, but there are also holes nearby. I tried traps last year and unfortunately caught a shrew - so I want to avoid traps for now. I hadn't considered vinegar!
