@TrollTouchline Why’s no one else matching the records then? If it’s that easy (apparently)…
English

🚨🚨🎙️ Alan Shearer SLAMS Bruno Fernandes matching the Premier League assist record: “The intensity of the league is weaker now than it was in the Henry and Kevin eras.”
“Fair play to Bruno Fernandes because twenty assists in the Premier League is not easy, but I still think people are getting carried away comparing every era like they’re exactly the same. When Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne were putting up those numbers, the league felt far more intense to me.
Back then you had defenders flying into tackles, midfielders constantly on top of you, and creative players barely had a second to breathe. Now the game is more open, more tactical, and honestly attackers get protected a lot more. Bruno is a fantastic player, nobody is denying that, but the conditions are different.
And let’s be honest, everything at Manchester United goes through him. Every attack, every transition, every set piece. Naturally your numbers are going to explode when the entire system is built around you touching the ball all the time.
For me, when Henry and De Bruyne did it, there was this control and dominance to their teams. Arsenal and City were overwhelming sides playing incredible football week after week. With Bruno, sometimes it feels more chaotic, more moments than complete control.
So yes, respect the achievement, absolutely. But matching the number doesn’t automatically mean it carries the exact same weight across different eras.”

@UTDFondre Not cut out of the PL, he’s a yard/yard and a half off the pace.
He’ll be ok in a less demanding league again
English

@Povey34 It got worse when he was actively trying to seek a way to take Bruno’s assist off him…desperate man.
Jilted/scorned ex lover comes to mind.

@MikeKeegan_DM 😂 enjoy that Guinness!
To be fair the on field ref is the main guy, he’s entitled to say to his assistants “go away” so yeah I completely agree it’s not fit for purpose.
But I also think weaker ref’s cave too easily.
English

The issue is whether it was accidental or not (I think it was as accidental as me ordering a Guinness in about an hour) was down to the opinion of the referee and while humans are involved in the process there will always be room for error so, in my opinion, outside of offsides (and GLT), VAR is fundamentally flawed and should go in the bin.
English

@maxbscott The wording here is wild.
How can the main on field ref ever ‘overrule’ any assistant?
The main on field’s decision is final. He didn’t call it on the pitch & told his assistant he feels he had it correct after further review.
VAR is to help the ref, not to be the final call.

Accidental handball that leads to a team-mate scoring a goal or having a goal-scoring opportunity will no longer be considered an offence.

He’s a pinned-ball wizard, there has to be a twist. And there is. Referee somehow deems as accidental Bryan Mbeumo clearly pinning the ball with his arm, controlling it. #MUNNFO

Hideous @FA_PGMOL, one of the worst decisions I’ve ever seen and get this pathetic referee banned.
Utterly ridiculous and scandalous. I’d go so far to see as corrupt!!!
You wonder why casual fans are falling out of love for the game. #NFFC #Premierleague #MUFC
If Mbeumo scored directly from that then we all agree it gets disallowed so the fact that he’s then controlled it and Cunha has scored should make no difference.
Wet wipe of a ref!!!

@henrywinter Thought it hit his body then arm?
Guess we’ll have to ask Mbeumo where he consciously learnt that technique…
English

How on earth is that accidental!! It’s handball by Mbeumo. VAR was trying to bring some justice to the initial decision, invites ref to think again, to check the monitor. Ref sticks with his earlier aberration. Bizarre. Nottingham Forest rightly furious. #MUNNFO

Gary Neville on the VAR call: “Honestly, that is ridiculous. The VAR has been clear: the player has handballed it. He looked it for three minutes and the referee has looked at it for another minute. I can't believe what I have just seen.
That was handball. I don't know what to say.” [@NathSalt1]
