@MOH_Kenya This is the shift everyone’s been waiting for: country leadership + donor integration + stronger systems. The Kenya–U.S. partnership can be a model for what comes next.

Kenya and the United States Advance Strategic Health Partnership to Strengthen UHC and Global Health Security Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale and National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. John Mbadi on 13th November 2025 co-chaired a high-level bilateral meeting with a United States delegation led by Ms Susan Burns, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Kenya. The engagement reaffirmed the deepening Kenya–U.S. partnership in priority areas of mutual interest, with a strong emphasis on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Global Health Security Vision. Discussions centred on aligning Kenya’s UHC agenda with the America First Global Health Strategy, which places focus on resilience, sustainability, co-financing, performance-based implementation, and shared accountability. Hon. Duale underscored the Government’s commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships under Sustainable Development Goal 17, highlighting progress in disease surveillance, outbreak response, laboratory systems strengthening, human resources for health, digital health, and strategic investments in the sector. He also outlined ongoing reforms to enhance long-term sustainability, including the restructuring of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to ensure efficient last-mile delivery, and the development of a digital superhighway to support real-time track-and-trace systems for transparency and accountability. The Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the value of Kenya’s longstanding collaboration with the U.S. Government through PEPFAR, USAID, CDC, and other agencies—partnerships that have strengthened health systems and saved millions of lives. He further highlighted gains achieved through sustained cooperation with the Global Fund, citing a 66% reduction in tuberculosis deaths, improved treatment success rates at 89%, a drop in HIV incidence from 6.8% in 2005 to 3.3% in 2024, significant declines in malaria burden, and a reduction of over 90% in under-five mortality. Hon. Duale noted that these outcomes reflect the transformative impact of sustained investment, strong governance, and strategic partnerships that continue to drive Kenya’s national health and development agenda. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretaries Dr Ouma Oluga (Medical Services), Dr Korir Sing’Oei (Foreign Affairs), and Dr Chris Kiptoo (National Treasury); Director-General for Health Dr Patrick Amoth; Mr Brad Smith, Senior Adviser for U.S. Global Health Security and Diplomacy; Global Fund Head of Grant Division Mr Mark Edington; and other dignitaries.

Below is the Communique issued at the end of the Africa Health Sovereignty Summit held in Accra on 5th August. It should have been issued on 6th August but was overtaken by the tragic loss of lives in the helicopter crash.

Where are we now in the fight against HIV/AIDS? Our new editorial in AIDS takes stock of where the global response stands in 2025—and the picture is sobering. Despite progress in treatment and prevention, the HIV response is at a breaking point. journals.lww.com/aidsonline/ful…

Now that dust has settled on #IAS2025, it’s time to get to work. The excellent reporting from aidsmap is a reminder: scientific breakthroughs like twice-yearly PrEP mean little without bold action to ensure access for all. Here are five things to focus on: aidsmap.com/news/jul-2025/…
