@RoccSTL We don't have buildup in the midfield. That's the problem
English

@JRemboldy Why would the offense need to change?
Buildup and midfield play isn’t what’ has caused the offense to waste most of three games.
English

#AllForCITY produce more possession, passes & shots than Seattle
All for naught. Sounders win 1-0.
Cedi gave them more but Hartel was still the only better-than-good player in the outfield...
Who needs to step up?
What other changes does the XI need?
Let's talk it over:
English

@RoccSTL Again I said most important, and if he's the only guy that can ping these balls. Then the offense needs to change. Which it isn't because our only hope seems to be crossing balls to the box and hoping for an own goal
English

@JRemboldy Well availability obviously isn’t the best skill or else the current players would be enough.
You keep Edu because no one else is going to be able to ping 45 yard through balls to open up your attackers.
English

@RoccSTL He just needs to be on the field. That's all I'm saying. Availability is the most important skill. None of the other skills matter if they aren't on the field
English

@RoccSTL But he needs to play. The best ability is availability
English

@JRemboldy You keep the guy who plays borderline MVP level when he’s available.
English

@RoccSTL So we have information now. What's the correct soccer decision?
English

@JRemboldy You can only make decisions about the information you have.
English

@RoccSTL He's only good if he plays. As you mentioned above, having a great player that can't play doesn't make financial sense
English

@JRemboldy Yes because they have the information available now, they didn’t know Eduard Löwen would have this situation when they originally signed him.
But they know he’s too good to move on from.
English

@RoccSTL So spending money on players who don't play is bad?
English

@JRemboldy If you spend money on him that needs to go to a position like striker where they need a roster upgrade no matter who is healthy, you’re not creating efficient value with your moves.
You can only spend so much on a player who might only play 30’ a game instead of 90’
English

@RoccSTL So having a great player on the bench not able to play is a really bad thing?
English

@JRemboldy There is a reason. Because if Löwen because available for a 20-game stretch, you’ve potentially wasted cash & a roster spot on a player who just rides the bench.
Pep talked about this last year when CITY lost like 3CBs to injury & fans wanted a good 6th option.
English

@RoccSTL Well then there is no excuse for not bringing on another player. Diego or Carolyn or someone needs to go
English

@JRemboldy They have an open international spot as well, so that isn’t an issue either.
English

@RoccSTL I never said don't pay him. But he is using a DP slot and an international spot. That can be restructured. And I would have to take fmla and not get paid
English

@JRemboldy It’s not like his salary is what’s stopping them from making moves.
Also paying a person less because they’re taking case of their sick wife is some truly harsh shit. In any other job, that idea would be mocked wildly.
English

@BallWatchingSTL There needs to be a contract restructure. We need someone who can be on the field.
English

@RoccSTL Then we need to restructure his contract. His situation is tragic but it is detrimental to the on field product
English

@MattBakerSTL @stlCITYsc Lowen needs to be on the field. We have no buildup on the middle of the field
English

FT and it’s a massively disappointing 1-0 loss at home for @stlCITYsc. A virtual stalemate all around, CITY’s loss comes squarely at the feet of Wallem & a real unfortunate defensive third turnover.
Few real dangerous chances created, this was an overall good defensive performance, but that’s not enough, especially at home.
CITY takes possession 61-39 and 5/12 vs 4/6 shots on target/shots but too many sloppy possession moments attempting to progress and just 0.66 to 0.33 xG… good moments by Teuchert, Hartel, Orozco and some others is overshadowed by continued ineffectiveness in the final third.
1 goal in the first 3 games isn’t acceptable even in an evolving system. #AllForCITY
English

@MattBakerSTL @stlCITYsc At what point do we talk about restructuring Lowen's contract so we can bring in a player who can be on the field? I wouldn't wish his situation on my worst enemy but it is costing the team
English

A big takeaway tonight does have to include CITY missing their best field player (Hartel), best midfielder (Löwen), and presumably 2 of our top 3 CB options (Fallou & Mbacke) + being weaker at ST than we know we should be.
This is very much a @stlCITYsc team in development & a work in progress re: coaching, style & familiarity... but knowing key pieces were missing to where our ideal group will look like, should be accounted for in the overall evaluation tonight. #AllForCITY
