@wstgoat7 Can’t be a playoff dropper if you’re not good in the first place

@mutacious @philfanacc Yh I think to be an effective Pass-first guard in the league defense have to respect your outside shot. I don’t think Giddey qualifies even if he’s been shooting respectably recently.

@JRibena1 @philfanacc I think you’re right but the bar seems to be pretty high for expectations on the scoring side too. For example, does Giddy count? Extremely talented passer who looks to pass way more than shoot. Puts up decent scoring numbers consistently. He just can’t shoot (or defend).

They’re easily the most least self-aware superstars when it comes to roster construction. Both need quality playmaking lead guards to make their jobs easier along with optimal spacing. Instead, Durant has literally joined two teams that possess neither while Giannis invested in a shoot first Dame that was on the decline😭

@mutacious @philfanacc Probably just Pass-First point guards who still retain some sort of scoring gravity

@philfanacc What even is a “CP3/Haliburton type”? Not players I would have thought to describe as playing similar brands of basketball.

@Bruns0nsBurner @BlockedByBamba Yh 100% I never disagreed with that. I just hate the discourse around the Jokic clones, like they can not have a Jokic level impact and still be positive NBA players. But tbf main issue is the labelling because none of them have a Jumper, which is an integral part of Jokic

@JRibena1 @BlockedByBamba Yeah again it just depends what you’re looking for. I’m talking about creating a championship team. It’s a lot easier to fit a Kawhi clone type into a championship roster than a Jokic clone type

@Bruns0nsBurner @BlockedByBamba Yh I agree but I think both can be positive/good NBA player. Realistically neither can be the primary on a real contender but a Jokic clone can elevate a bad team to at least mediocrity.

@JRibena1 @BlockedByBamba I’m just saying I’d much rather someone like OG Anunoby (“Kawhi clone”) on my team than Sengun if I want to win a championship

@Bruns0nsBurner @BlockedByBamba I’m not saying there 1A’s on a title winning team but to reduce them to stat padding is wrong as well. 24/25 Sengun had near Jokic level usage and the rockets were a 50 win team. Sabonis I don’t think should be called Jokic-lite as his usage is nowhere near but Yh I hear you

@JRibena1 @BlockedByBamba Just depends what your idea of a really good NBA player is and how that leads to winning a title. You can have a guy like Sengun or Sabonis put up nice numbers and look like a decent player, but are those guys gonna contribute to a championship winning team?

@Bruns0nsBurner @BlockedByBamba Yh I don’t disagree, just think you can still be a “bad Jokic” and still be a really good NBA player. I think the Jokic clone is dumb because a majority of them aren’t even close to having Jokic’s physical tools, they just get the label cus they’re bigs who can playmake.

@JRibena1 @BlockedByBamba My point is moreso that a bad Kawhi clone fits into being a role player on a championship team a hell of a lot better than a bad Jokic clone

@Bruns0nsBurner @BlockedByBamba I mean they can still be a positive player, you’re just never gonna be a real contender if there you’re engine. Sabonis and Sengun are both good players, but they will never be the best player on a championship team. Similar to the way a bad Kawhi clone will never be a 1a

@BlockedByBamba At least being a bad Kawhi clone usually means you’re a solid 2-way player. Being a fake “Jokic clone” typically involves a negative defender who’s not actually capable of quarterbacking an offense so they’re just not a positive player

@TetabalI_ @TobyEvenden Tarrabt was mediocre in the prem and Tevez was a huge outlier signing at the time even being under investigation. Average prem team very rarely get all-timers and when they do it’s never for more than a couple seasons lol

@TobyEvenden the average team clocked that to stay in the premier you don't need a Ben Arfa, Tevez or Tarrabt but a strong team with players who are willing to be physical and work. Boring football is more optimal. Attacks are worse and defences are better.
