URGENT NOTICE FROM THE JSA LABOUR COURT COMMITTEE: Cancellation and postponement of 15 November Code of Good practice workshop due to road closures in Gauteng. The workshop will be rescheduled early in the new year, and a new date will be communicated in due course.

On 25 October 2025, AuxBrief was launched, with Vezi De Beer Inc issuing digital briefs from its client Standard Bank, live, to a pool of junior advocates. We congratulate JSA Members s and colleagues from Auxcon and Vezi de Beer Inc for this significant milestone.

On 18 October 2025, the Johannesburg Bar Council hosted its Annual Bar Dinner in honour of Justice Phineas Majapelo.

On 23 October 2025, the JSA held its Annual General Meeting, wherein, inter alia, provision was made to support the development of the Lesotho Bar, and the 97-day rule was abolished with effect from 1 November 2025.

The Johannesburg Society of Advocates congratulates the Office of the Public Protector on three decades of advancing constitutional democracy and promoting ethical governance. Don Mahon SC, Vice Chair of the JSA, attended the Public Protector 30-Year Anniversary Conference.

On 10 October 2025, Benny Makola, SC, Kameel Premhid, Jabu Chanza, and Sinako Bomela were invited by EleaThom Mentorship NPC Mentorship programme to speak on a life at the Bar which included the keynote address at the annual mentorship seminar given by Justice Kollapen.

On Thursday, 2 October, the Human Rights Committee of the JSA hosted a ‘meet and greet’ with South Africa’s public interest law organisations. Over 100 members of the JSA, including 20 pupils, attended and got the opportunity to learn more about the work of the organisations.
