@Fara1 Did mov movies change everything? Italian-coded characters before then (and ethnic characters in general) were usually losers or comedic relief. The Godfather, etc, presented a model of cool that was super easy to ape. Italians acted less Italian before that movie, I swear.

Few things are more played out than being an exaggerated Italian American. I pity all you sad WOP losers. The only people more pathetic are the ones who think the schtick is funny. And yes, it's schtick. It's always schtick.
