In August 2023, the Somaliland forces were completely disarmed, and their military equipment was taken over by the Northeastern Regional State. Awdal is inhabited by the Dir, Ciise, and Samaroon clans who have consistently affirmed their loyalty to Somalia. These facts make it politically, socially, and legally impossible to justify external intervention or recognition schemes that undermine the unity of Somalia.
