In our meeting during my hiring process in 2003, Katherine encouraged me to turn my interest in the role of media during the Rwanda Genocide into a major project. With her support, the Rwanda Initiative was created, a five-year program to foster journalism education in Rwanda.

Honoured to attend today's emotional memorial service for Katherine Graham, the legendary public policy scholar and former Dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs at Carleton. She hired me in 2003. One friend called her "a mentor, a steady presence and a cheerleader, all at once."

An emotional and poignant farewell today for legendary Canadian journalist Hugh Winsor. Hugh's celebration of life was replete with references to his most notable traits - his kindness, curiosity, generosity, tenacity - and his love of words, sailing, family and friends. RIP Hugh

So proud of the work of @jschool_cu friend and colleague Brett Popplewell @b_popps, who just published a major feature on the Greenland crisis in The Walrus carleton.ca/sjc/2026/journ… Brett is the model of how today's journalism educators can and should remain active in our field.

Reviewing more than 1,000 pages of declassified documents, Forester found surveillance that began in Labrador in 1988 with Cold War paranoia about Soviet meddling had by 1998 evolved into a national counterterrorism project monitoring Indigenous dissent as "domestic extremism."
