Taylor Townsend super thoughtful, tough, and all class in next to impossible situation. Huge respect. Trying to find some grace and benefit of doubt for Ostapenko but using the lack of a fake apology for a net cord as the premise for the fit is ludicrous.

I’m interrupting my twitter hiatus to announce that the constitution doesn’t allow you to arrest a person of interest, even if it is a “strong person of interest.” You can arrest if there is probable cause. That’s all. Everyone do better.

I played my first tennis tournament in 25 yrs this wknd. I was a nervous. So I asked my 10 yr old what she does when she’s nervous to sing. She said, “instead of thinking what might go wrong, I think ‘what if I do great.’” I thought about that on the court all wknd and it worked.

@MarkCaro This is one of countless subjects I’d love to discuss with @LoriLightfoot. On this, she failed to understand that Chicago has enormous liability due to its own wrongful conduct, not because lawyers like Loevy are seeking remedy for the misconduct.

I wish she’d said more. She tried to “handle” wrongful convictions by trying to beat Loevy in court but lost high-profile Wrice case. Then, it was business as usual for city of litigate, stall, pay out and move on without any greater strategy or handle on issue.

@segalmr I kind of screwed up that analogy. How about the law firm won 6 huge high profile cases in the 90s and had the best lawyer on the planet and has bungled every case since for 3 decades. Ok I feel better now. Carry on.

Gang experts are not meaningfully expert in any sense of the word.
If you called me as a witness to talk about how bad police and prosecutors are, I'd be every bit as useful and qualified.

Of all the witnesses I've ever seen brought to court, none are more mendacious than gang experts.
Their job is to launder hearsay and opinion into expert testimony, and they, coincidentally, will always say exactly what needs to be said.

The next issue Steel brings up is that this is the second “gang expert” the State has brought, and they are planning to bring 3 more. All of them work for the exact same agency and received the exact same training. Their testimony is repetitive and cumulative. He asks the judge to prevent the next 3 from testifying. The Judge says he noticed this already with the first two and warns the state that it’s getting cumulative. This issue will be discussed further later.
