HT: #WxmAFC 1 (Windass 38) #itfc 0
Kept the ball nicely in first 20mins, but didn't make the most of some half chances.
Tide then turned. Kipre/Johnson got in a muddle leading up to the goal. Palmer's made several smart stops. Hosts will feel they should be further ahead.
FT: #dcfc 1 (Brewster pen 68) #itfc 2 (Travis OG 8, Davis 77)
Pegged back by a pen, Davis header restores lead and Travis sent off in a feisty finish.
Mehmeti superb. McAteer's first assist. Big win on the road.

@thomasutrI@Ipswichblue90@Stuart_Watson Daft response. Plenty of difference across a division, different systems, tactics, style of play, opposition set up. Look, I don't really care. Just happy he's moved on from us.
🚨 DONE DEAL
#itfc forward Sammie Szmodics has joined Championship rivals #dcfc on loan.
Announced two-and-a-half hours after the window 'shut' thanks to use of deal sheet.
Will be ineligible to face Town on Saturday.

@thomasutrI@Ipswichblue90@Stuart_Watson Can only do that if he comes back to Ipswich and excels, and that just won't happen. I hope he does well at Derby, doesn't change the fact he's not good enough for Town.
@Ipswichblue90@Stuart_Watson He offers nothing, he looks completely out of his depth at Ipswich. Likeable guy but just not good, and baffling we ever signed him.
@DooleOllie@paulontoast Yeah I agree with all that. Nunez at 10 has been a big factor in the upturn and when we play a second striker (Akpom/szmodics) it tends to breakdown. I'd like to see Cajuste there, also. Think it would suit him more than in a double pivot where he has to defend.
@J_L_4@paulontoast Agree to an extent but is also a system issue. He’s not a playmaker, he’s best running in behind on the line with defenders. He’s not a 10 that we need like Nunez or Chaplin who were able to spray passes out wide and get others into play
@DooleOllie@paulontoast He's had one good season in years of mediocrity. It was terrible recruitment, not a system issue at all, you only have to watch him to realise he's just not very good.
@paulontoast He’s had so many opportunities to show his worth. He’s a passenger in this system that we play. We can’t change our whole plan just to potentially suit him. He’s a poacher, not a playmaker and the latter is what we need in the 10 role
@MikeAmos23139@Stuart_Watson One swallow does not make a summer, and Cov were surprisingly limp, but I was at the game today and when playing out from the back it really cost us.
Five changes today. Leif Davis benched through choice.
Kieran McKenna has explained why, providing an update on 'significant' injuries and revealing a fresh set back.

@iamliamh@essextractor@Stuart_Watson What's so laughable? The line up; a CB at LB and Szmodics and Hirst as forwards cost us the game? That's on McKenna.
FT: #sufc 3 (O'Hare 38, Brooks 45+4, Bamford 66) #itfc 1 (Clarke pen 60)
Fiery game full of chances for both sides. Blades, whose fine home form continues, ultimately took more of theirs.
7-game unbeaten run over. Back to being 5pts behind 2nd-place Boro (game in hand to come).
@TitanicClown1@Stuart_Watson@alexnljones@mark__heath I agree, and would you add Szmodics to that? The pair of them, compared to Nunez and Azon on Tuesday, was remarkable. They are both incapable of holding up the ball, so we end up giving it back to the opposition constantly.
@Stuart_Watson Please can you and @alexnljones@mark__heath refrain from the 'Hirst does sooo much for team' and 'we cant get better' nonsense next week.
Hes not in the top 10 champ strikers and no amount of running compensates for consistently losing the ball.
Upgrade is obviously essential
@Stuart_Watson Lost it at the line up. Greaves at LB away from home was comical. The shape was so poor, without Davis, he literally had no idea where to stand. And playing Hirst and Szmodics as a front two - Jesus fucking Christ.
Often meet someone and say I listen to a lot of podcasts, and they’re like “oh have you heard this New York Times serial about the history of rubber? It’s amazing”
And I have to say “no…I just listen to Simon Jordan, Froch on Fighting and things like ‘was Hermann Göring gay?’”
Do like the nectar app and it's end of year review. 3rd highest buyer of white chocolate timtams in Chester Sainsbury's. Bronze medal baby. Oh yes oh yes oh yes
Kieran McKenna was asked for updates on George Hirst and Sammie Szmodics following #itfc's 2-1 home win against Oxford.

@RealSkadoink@alexnljones I really don't think Ipswich have the players to up the performance levels, significantly. Most of the players haven't & wouldn't play above a mid championship team level if away from Ipswich. Cajuste & Akpom have been worse than expected, admittedly. But most are middling champ.
@alexnljones I agree, but in response to your KoA video where it was asked if Ipswich can hit top gear (and does it matter). The comment I was gonna make is hitting top gear will get us promoted. Not hitting it won't. Grinding out can get us to the playoffs, but no further.
‘The squad is more than good enough… We’ll be up there - we’re too strong not to be.’
Darnell Furlong is adamant that #itfc will be in the promotion mix this season.

What I'd like to see is American celebrities going over to places like the UK and Australia, and doing some of the lingo, some of the colloquial slang, in interviews. Reckon that would be a right laugh and not something you see often enough.
@alexnljones It's maddening how late we react to any kind of in game occurrence. Given they scored a couple of great goals but for 70 minutes there was honestly no way we were going to score, yet nothing is changed/risked. It's pretty clear he doesn't trust a lot of the new recruits.
