You use more static analysis than you might know. Get more aware of the tools you are using. And how to benefit from the power they have. Next Tuesday, June 6th at 7:30 PM CEST @Jaapio will take a deep dive into the tools. ingewikkeld.dev/sessions

@VotrubaT does @rectorphp have a buildin meganism to create new class in a psr4 compatible way? Or do I have to implement a file printer for that?

Last week Jaap was part of a team working on a new cross community initiative to create a PHP-based documentation rendering tool. Why would you build everything on your own when you have the same shared goal?!

@ste_bau @_Codito_ @joecampo This is possible for larger projects, remember that a lot of projects are maintained by a single person. But it's ok to disagree, making the statement that final is an issue is a bit to harsh for me. Final has it's purpose, like private, read-only ect.

@Jaapio @_Codito_ @joecampo This is why you require a GitHub repository that replicates the issue. Bugs reported in Laravel for example require this to significantly reduce the time needed to debug for maintainers.

A case against "final"🌶️ > Find bug in open source PHP package > Try to fix bug locally so I'm not blocked until it's patched by owner > Discover all classes are marked "final" > Git clone the package > Fix the bug and remove all "final" > Now I'm maintaining another package

@ste_bau @_Codito_ @joecampo No, users are reporting bugs, and it takes me time to investigate what is going on. It might be just 15 min, but with a large user base it takes a significant amount of time. I can only close issues if I'm sure it is not my problem.

@Jaapio @_Codito_ @joecampo "caused by wrongly extended classes" -- You're accepting the responsibility of someone else's code that is outside of documented API (I'd assume). You can close those issues and move on. You are in full control of what you deem appropriate usage on your software.

@ste_bau @_Codito_ @joecampo The problem is not that you cannot do what you want, but that a maintainer cannot do what he wants! I had it multiple times that an issue was reported by users, caused by wrongly extended classes. I don't want to debug your code. This is mainly an issue with injected services.

No it’s not, I disagree completely. Devs overriding classes or methods outside of the documented and public API is not something an OSS needs to ever worry about, and I’d argue that devs doing this already know this. If they submit a bug with some complicated overrides they were doing, I’d happily say “sorry it’s not intended to be used in that way”. Easy. For example, if I override Laravel’s application container in my application along with many protected methods with my own code, do you think it’s Taylor’s responsibility for that code to work? No, of course not, it’s the person who is writing the code who is responsible.

I can't say enough how good @SymfonyCasts is. It saves me a massive amount of time not helping team members with basic and more advanced symfony topics. Thank you @weaverryan for your amazing work!
