@Wildlaw406 I think this is also grounds for a bar complaint. A lawyer shall not bring or defend a proceeding, or assert or controvert an issue therein, unless there is a basis in law and fact for doing so that is not frivolous, . . . Model Rule 3.1

I filed a motion for sanctions for the first time in my career. Opposing counsel filed an AI brief that was supported only by hallucinated and misquoted cases. He didn’t have any actually relevant law in his brief. Why ask the court to sanction him? Because he spent maybe an hour drafting a groundless no-evidence motion (Texas thing) that took me 20 hours to effectively respond to. Not about to let him do that and not pay a price for it.

sober selfie. as many of you know, I white-knuckled two years of sobriety before relapsing. but since starting a GLP-1 back in Feb, I’ve had zero desire to drink. a lifetime of struggle is gone. it almost feels like cheating, but maybe everything doesn’t have to be so hard.

I have my bar license in California. Arkansas does not have reciprocity with California, so I can’t be admitted to Arkansas without taking a bar exam. However, Texas allows California attorneys to become licensed in Texas without taking a bar exam there. And then Arkansas has reciprocity with Texas. So a California-licensed attorney can become licensed in Arkansas without ever taking the Arkansas (or any other) bar exam again by first obtaining a Texas license via admission without examination and then using Arkansas’s admission-on-motion process.

Bush v Gore is the big sliding door of the past 30 years. So much was put in motion. But these days I also think about Nader and his fanatics. In NH, Bush beat Gore by <0.5%. Nader took 4%. Without Nader, Gore wins NH. SCOTUS never happens. Something to remember this year.
Neera Tanden🌻@neeratanden

Since Bush v Gore, the Supreme Court has demonstrated that their first rule is helping Republicans win. They are responsible for the loss of confidence in their impartiality. They are creating the demand for reform.

(I am taking a table's order.) Me: "Okay, sir. What can I get for you to eat?" Customer: "I'll have a bacon cheeseburger, but if they add bacon to it, I don't want bacon." Me: "So, do you want a regular cheeseburger?" Customer: "No. I want my burger to have bacon on it. But if it comes with bacon, then I don't want bacon." (I have absolutely no idea what he is asking for, and all his friends seem to be as confused as I am.) Me: "Okay, just to make sure I am understanding you correctly, I am going to repeat what you are asking for." Customer: "Okay." Me: "You want a bacon cheeseburger, and if there is bacon on it, you don't want the bacon." Customer: "Right." Me: "But you definitely want the bacon on the burger." Customer: "Right." (Now all his friends are laughing, and I have no idea what to say. Suddenly, the customer realizes what he's been saying.) Customer: "PICKLES! Oh my God, I don't want PICKLES on the burger!" Me: "Oh, thank God! I was starting to think I went crazy!"

@HeidiBriones Use a meat thermometer. The main reason it gets dry is because you cook it too long. Not a problem for me since I started using a thermometer. Same with pork chops.

I wish chicken breast tasted better. I have no idea how you're all cooking it without it getting dry or chewy. Tips? I tend to skip it and cook thighs instead, but I need to up my protein.

@TheEXECUTlONER_ It's a zipper merge. It's the right thing to do. Unfortunately, it takes a culture shift to get people to adopt it.

This guy is using the left hand lane , which is open. There is a mile long backup and everyone is over in the right hand lane. He drives all the way up until he has to merge. Some people are saying what a jerk he is for not getting in line like everyone else, but a great many people are saying that the cars in the right lane merged into one lane too soon and that if they had used the left lane, instead of being a mile backup it would have been a half a mile backup. What’s your take? Do you think he was correct in using the left lane and merging up at the front or should he have merged right and got in line way in the back like everyone else?

“If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you". Wise words that still ring true today spoken by an upstanding Texan, LBJ in 1964… let it sink in that it’s now 2026.

The Voting Rights Act was built on an assumption by its authors (primarily Abe Fortas and Nicholas Katzenbach) that the South would only act in racist ways if allowed to and so had to be stopped from doing so at all times forever, and holy shit was that assumption dead on. -OS
