Out of all 36 members of the Connecticut State Senate, in 2024 nobody made more “no” votes than Rob Sampson. He voted “no” on requiring ‘just cause’ when firing Connecticut teachers. He voted “no” on placing basic limitations on defamatory images made with AI. He was even the one lone “no” vote on absolving those accused of witchcraft in the 1600s. Rob Sampson doesn’t make these votes to make your life any better; it’s just more performative politics that accomplishes nothing. He wants the voters of Connecticut’s 16th District to think he’s a courageous fighter for making these voters, when it's really just a scheme to keep you distracted from the fact that he doesn’t work to pass any actually meaningful legislation.

Trump's war helps defense contractors get rich while Americans continue their struggle to afford rent and see a doctor. Today is the anniversary of the signing of the Affordable Care Act. While this was an important piece of national legislation, too many continue to struggle with America’s astronomical prices for healthcare. But states can go further. In 2024, Connecticut passed a bill paying the healthcare debt of 23,000 people. This was a step in the right direction. To cut costs in the first place, we can cap costs for commercial healthcare at a percentage of Medicare rates- just one of many solutions Connecticut can act on to lower premiums.

Buying everyday items isn’t like it used to be. For years now, Connecticutters have watched corporate greed take over pricing in many areas of our economy, but especially in groceries. Government has been nowhere to be found. This needs to change. Connecticut is suffering from borderline monopoly when it comes to our groceries, with just a few chains owning almost all of the market. Connecticut needs to make it easier for small grocery businesses to open by cutting red tape- and supporting these businesses once they do open their doors. A more diverse and competitive grocery economy can help drive down the costs for everyone, and eliminating the tax on prepared food will help too.
