At 500 extra pounds, the heart is pumping through roughly 2,500 extra miles of vessels, 100,000 beats a day. The heart grows bigger trying to keep up. He was back in the hospital a year later. He'd gained 200 pounds in seven days. Doctors stopped treatment because his condition couldn't be cured. He died at 41. His two boys were still young. They buried him in a plywood casket lined with cloth. It took up two cemetery plots.
