Interesting gym interaction today: Random guy: Hey man I was wondering if I could just ask you a quick question? Me: yeh sure Him: I saw you doing your deadlifts and you’re moving some really good weight with great form. But I noticed before each set you just walk up to the bar and stare at yourself in the mirror for like a minute before doing your set. What’s that all about? Me: *chuckles* Him: sorry if it’s a stupid question Me: it’s not a stupid question at all I just don’t know if you’re ready for the answer Him: what is it Me: well it’s just me psyching myself up for my set. Clearing the mind of all other thoughts. Sometimes it’s positive thoughts I can do this, lightweight, this is nothing, this is easy etc Him: so it’s not always positive? Me: no not by a long shot most of the time I tell myself if I don’t finish the set I’m gay, or I deserve to die or my family will be killed if I don’t get these reps Him: 😳 that seems a bit extreme Me: hey you asked.
