I’m grateful for all the funding opportunities but there has to be a kinder way for the call for proposal to come out a week before Christmas and for the proposal to be due second week of January.

@KristinAquilino Your right that was terrible. I had just talked about the two paddlefish species on Friday. Little did I know the Chinese paddlefish was recently declared extinct. Sad.

@phylogenomics @ucdavis I’ve been teaching a precollege course 4wks, 5d, 9-5 this month and Covid hit us. I’ve pushed hard to keep everyone masked. One TAs came down with Covid on the 2nd day and luckily didn’t give it to the rest of TAs and myself. I’ve just said only way to make this work is mask.

To my colleagues at @ucdavis - I am wondering - do you think we should reinstitute an indoor mask mandate as has been recently done at some other UCs? And if you have reasons for yes / no / maybe I would be interested in hearing that too.

@JacksonAGross @GHGGuru @BW Per the attached 2017 data Japan, and Portugal are the two main exceptions. In China pork & fish are around the same with chicken less. India eats more fish, but very little meat total. So overall, as the article didn't note, chicken is more broadly consumed than fish

@REGENETARIANISM @GHGGuru @BW We are not choosing which location. Plenty of developed countries eat more fish. It’s total and if if you want to compare actual numbers of individuals the gap is even greater.

Paper rejected by the editor without reviews, after 3 years of lab work and 6 months of intense manuscript preparation. This has been a long week. 😵‍💫

@Revolupine @MoveTheWorldUS Captive birds? Do you mean chickens? Because I’d be willing to hamper that the majority of the pet birds are poultry for egg production at domestic or farm scale. I would not consider this the pet trade.

As the popularity of keeping wild animals as pets increases in the US, so too have the number of outbreaks from proximity to these animals. The number of future outbreaks is likely to increase if the population of these animals continues to expand.
