@jinnbapho @GokutoX Yea, and he never shades like the DQ12 protagonist illustration shown. The base character and design is definitely Toriyama, but the colouring/shading just doesnt match. They might’ve recoloured the character to fit to the new direction idk.

Maaaaannnnn…. As exciting as it is to finally see Dragon Quest XII info, I’m pretty pissed they scrapped the “serious/ more adult entry” they had planned for another bright/friendly adventure. I was looking forward to a massively different looking game for once. 🫤

Yosuke Saito says that Dragon Quest XII "Flames of Fate" experienced some development challenges in the beginning, especially with it being the newest numbered title in the series. They decided on a different development structure for the game, and because of this, they had to restart the DQ12 project. However, rest assured that development on the game is indeed progressing well. He asks to please wait a bit longer for the game to be released! It seems the title has also changed from "Flames of Fate" to now "Beyond Dreams."

Seems like they choose to play it safe and decided to keep DQ12 more faithful towards what their audience enjoys/expects. The Flames of Fate was supposed to have a darker and more adult tone + revamped gameplay system. Looks like it will be more traditional now and not as dark.

First look at Dragon Quest 12!! Square Enix confirmed they had to restart development and thats why its taken so long. The game is now called DQ12 Beyond Dreams instead of 'The Flames of Fate'.
