Week 15 @B329Leadership @b329_bill Resistance leaders can be promoted as the hero - and often should be - as they can represent the oppressed, think Emmeline Pankhurst. In my opinion, covert resistance tactics don't align with the values associated with a leader.

Week 14 @B329Leadership @b329_bill It was great to learn about the different kinds of problems and how leaders prioritise what to address. Then learning about place-based leadership I've reflected on how we could better use the businesses around us to create mutual success.

I will still plan to take this approach but looking back I can see where we as a business have been caught out by not being realistic enough with situations and over-promising.

Week 12 @B329Leadership @b329_bill I always preach the win-win with my clients at work and clearly lean towards a positive-sum approach to leadership, however, I've never taken a step back to understand the negatives that can also come with this approach.

The concept of constructive dissent imparticular challenges the normal construct of leaders being powerful and not to be challenged, but as in the naval examples given part of being a good leader can be listening to others.

Week 11 @B329Leadership @b329_bill: Was interesting in challenging topics that can traditionally be seen as negative such as conflict and dissent, however, when we consider diversity and collaboration people will naturally have differing opinions so conflict can be positive.

Relational leadership is where I feel most comfortable however this can create difficulties if the boundaries become blurred and that relationship becomes less professional and becomes more of a friendship. This will need constant reflection as a leader.

Week 10 @B329Leadership @b329_bill As a leader, it is always important to understand what and who is influencing your decision and does that mean it is right. Some of those influencing you will be the followers and it is important to understand this in order to mobilise them.

It's easy to see the importance of collaboration. There is no point in improving diversity for the benefit of a more diverse pool of ideas and experiences if the team isn't willing to share these ideas.

Week 9 @B329Leadership @b329_bill It was good to see that I already work within a business that promotes collaboration in many of the ways discussed. I also agree that 'Collaborative-thuggery' although not ideal has benefits and can in the long term create natural collaboration.

Additionally, the case study task for this week was particularly thought-provoking. The motive and background behind promoting diversity need to be authentic otherwise consumers and employees will see through the stats and your brand identified as 'diversity/ -washing'

Week 8 @B329Leadership @b329_bill Reflecting on how I use situational leadership was positive and has provided me with areas to consider to improve my own practice.

Week 7 @B329Leadership @b329_bill Upon reflection on the tasks I would rather be a leader and I can now understand the attributes I would need to show to be inspiring. All types of leaders are useful for different tasks and businesses need all of them to survive.

Hearing someone else views on the challenges we face as a business certainly highlighted that to understand others' views you must first listen.

Preparing for the interview felt like the key step that I was glad that I took. I had the capability to lead the interview with questions if the conversation did not flow and also bring the conversation back on a topic should it move away from the goals of the conversation.

Week 5 @B329Leadership @b329_bill - rounding up the weeks I haven't reflected on. I prepared questions and interviewed the MD of the business I work in. It was great to hear about how some of the studied theories have been applied practically in real life. -

You often see education put in place as a result of unsuitable behaviour or bad leadership. Whilst this is great to rectify behaviour I think it's important that this education happens to prevent the issue in the first place.

Week 4 @B329Leadership @b329_bill I learnt all about leading in a multicultural world. As people often say knowledge is the key and it's clear that knowledge is key to understanding other cultures and therefore how to adapt to them.

On a separate note, I feel populism as a theory is flawed as it only assumes that people fall into two categories, Elite or not, and in today's society the little differences from one another are far too important to be ignored.

This does raise the question of whether more populist leaders will surface as charisma can be imitated online, which would not have been possible for charismatic leaders of the past.

Week 3 @B329Leadership @b329_bill - back sharing what I have learnt. #populism certainly has become more prominent and will likely continue to grow as leaders begin to use social media to gain a following.
