This headline. THIS HEADLINE. 🤦♀️
“Eating just ONE egg a day increases your risk of diabetes by 60%”
I need everyone to sit with that for a second.
I eat 6 to 12 eggs a day. Every single day. For the past year.
And in that same year I:
🥚Reversed type 2 diabetes
🥚Reversed insulin resistance
🥚Reversed sleep apnea
🥚Stabilized my blood sugar
🥚Balanced my hormones
🥚Eliminated perimenopause symptoms
🥚Lost 140 pounds
🥚Got my brain back
On EGGS. Beef. Bacon. Butter.
This is exactly the kind of fear propaganda that kept me sick for 47 years. Headlines designed to keep you terrified of real food so you keep buying processed garbage and prescription pills instead.
Eggs are one of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. Complete protein. Choline for your brain. B12 for your nervous system. Healthy fat for your hormones. The yolk alone is a multivitamin.
They don’t want you to know that. A healthy population is a terrible business model.
I was headed for an early grave. Eggs didn’t almost kill me. Believing this kind of nonsense almost killed me.
Never again. 🥚🥩👑

There’s a woman on TikTok named Olive. She shows South Africans how to cook affordable meals to help them get through the month. She also uses donations and her own money to feed the poor. Hundreds, maybe thousands every month.
Your president just burned R7 million on a spectacle. Bloated politicians in designer outfits worth more than your annual salary. A red carpet parade funded by the same taxpayers who can’t afford school fees or new clothes for their children.
You stretch every cent, while they sip champagne and lecture you about progress.
They tell you the country has turned a corner while your budget says otherwise. They tell you the economy is recovering while you cut back on groceries. They tell you to stop believing your lying eyes, ears and bank balance.
1 woman feeds the hungry with almost nothing. The state feasts on trillions and demands applause for failure.
You think you hate politicians enough, but trust me, you don’t.

California's Central Valley produces 80% of the world's almonds. Each almond requires 3.2 gallons of actual irrigation water to grow. Not rainfall. Actual tap water pumped from aquifers.
One gallon of almond milk requires 162 gallons of irrigation water. Compare that to dairy milk at 8 gallons of tap water per gallon, with the rest being rainfall that falls on pasture anyway.
But here's where it gets properly grim. Almonds bloom for exactly three weeks in February. During those three weeks, California needs every pollinating bee in North America transported to the Central Valley or the crop fails entirely.
Commercial beekeepers truck in 31 billion honeybees. That's two-thirds of America's entire managed bee population, all concentrated in one valley for three weeks. The bees are packed into trucks, driven across the country, dumped into almond groves drenched in pesticides, worked to exhaustion, then packed up and shipped to the next crop.
The mortality rate is catastrophic. Beekeepers report losing 30 to 50% of their hives annually. That's billions of bees dead. Not from natural causes. From being used as disposable pollination machines for your almond milk.
The pesticides don't help. Almond groves are sprayed with neonicotinoids which scramble bee navigation systems, fungicides which weaken their immune systems, and herbicides which eliminate the wildflowers they'd normally forage on between almond blooms.
Meanwhile the aquifer depletion is permanent. The Central Valley has sunk 28 feet in some areas from groundwater extraction. That water took 10,000 years to accumulate. It's being drained in decades for almond milk.
Your vegan latte killed more bees and used more water than a year's worth of dairy milk. But it's got "plant-based" on the label so you're definitely saving the planet.

@AC360 Hey Anderson. I don't think you're showing us what you think you're showing us. What you're showing us is CNN ineptitude and it is embarrassing.

@01101101arMar Where can we hear more of your performances?
English

When I was still a student at the conservatory, my professors used to call me ‘Beethoven Girl’. Not just because I was the best Beethoven player they had, you see I had an unhealthy obsession with trying to get these notes to resonate at Beethoven’s truest intent.
I read what he read. I ate what he ate. I engulfed myself in Voltaire and Kant to breathe the same air of Enlightenment he breathed. To experience the frequencies he could not hear but were realer to him than his own reality. I learned from his students directly — Wilhelm Kempff and John O’Conor.
When I realized every piece of sheet music was altered by production for copyright purposes, I flew to Europe to get my hands on the First Edition of Beethoven Sonatas from Budapest. I hand painted this specific third movement on the walls of my dorm.
I graduated the conservatory with this as my final performance and went on to use it for my audition piece to get accepted as a fine arts major in university. The piece in its entirety is 1 hour long.
Here is Beethoven’s Sonata No 17 in D minor, the third movement—Tempest—performed to the enlightenment with which he originally intended.
Yours truly,
Beethoven Girl

@abelmike Will DM survive long enough to have a "People of the Year 2026"?
English

I was just reading Daily Maverick’s “People of the Year 2025” lists and found it useful to lay out the names exactly as published.
Just the categories and the nominees.
Here are DM’s heroes of 2025:

⸻
MOVEMENT OF THE YEAR
• South African Global Sumud Flotilla activists - sailing to Gaza.
• Women for Change
• The Inflatable Frog Costume Movement (US protest group linked to anti-administration activism)
⸻
And here are DM’s villains of the year:

⸻
MOEGOE OF THE YEAR

Now, stepping back from the detail:
With everything happening in the entire world this year, across countries, conflicts, movements and political flashpoints - the overall selection seems to take on a very particular shape, form and distinctive flavour.
Perhaps you see it differently? But to me, the pattern is hard to miss.
Speaking of what I miss? The original Daily Maverick 😢
