@gro_tsen It's a good idea, but there's still value in hearing about a result "from the horse's mouth": the inspiration, possible follow-up research, etc.

… or simply because there's a selection effect: if someone found a topic interesting enough to learn about someone else's research, it's more likely to interest third parties.

Possibly unpopular opinion: math seminars, and perhaps science seminars in general, should have a general rule that you shouldn't talk about your own research, only about other people's research that you found interesting. (The Bourbaki seminar does this.)

No, good point although it still shouldn't affect my whole network if it does power down. On my main laptop the NIC in the dock intermittently disappears for a few seconds so I have turned the setting off there although it's on mains power so shouldn't power off but with Windows 11 anything is unfortunately possible ☹️

Been getting random, short drop outs on my wired LAN here & I seem to have traced it to a cheap USB-C docking station for when that is not connected I don't get the issues. Used a different USB-A NIC, in the same laptop (not my ARM one) port & cable & problem doesn't occur. Couldn't use it on my ARM laptop as couldn't find NIC drivers

@Om7248 @NickKayal Wrong argument: if the Oscars were an event that people still cared about (or weren't disgusted by), they'd show up. Nobody says "I'm committed to streaming, so I'm not going to watch a live TV show even though I'd like to." Even ardent streamers still watch the Super Bowl, no?

@NickKayal I don't think the audience has gone away; it's just spread out across streaming, social media, and on-demand. Live sports is the last "real-time protocol" that TV still rules.
