Digitally transforming medical systems is crucial for improving transparency and  patient care. One of the major challenges in this process, overcoming siloed medical records, was a key focus at Northern Trust's recent leadership event – Navigating a New North. Managers and leaders across the Northern Trust joined me for 3 workshops where I shared best practice leadership lessons to help deliver a successful digital transformation in healthcare. I got the opportunity to share 30 years of hard-won lessons (the wins and the lessons learned) on navigating the challenges of digitizing businesses both large and small. The team north leadership conference was an exceptional event that was hugely motivating and engaging for everyone – go #teamNorth. Thank you Jennifer Welsh, Jacqui Reid, Nicola McClelland, Jackln Crowe, Dr Kevin Fong OBE, Dr Ronan Glynn and Peter May Permanent Secretary at the Department of Health for a wonderful day. What is happening? encompass is a Health and Social Care programme that will create a single digital care record for every citizen in Northern Ireland who receives health and social care. encompass aims to provide patients and service users with the safest, highest quality of care that is possible. encompass was implemented in the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust in November 2023 and will be rolled out across all Health and Social Care Trusts in Northern Ireland by the end of 2025 to create better experiences for patients, service users and staff. encompass will give patients and service users the ability to view and update their health information online wherever and whenever they like. It will also make it easier for Health and Social Care staff to view important information about their patients and service users both in a clinical setting and while working in the community.
