Lemme get sappy on the timeline rq
Some context for followers I've gained in the last ~5 years
I've always been interested in digital video since like almost the 90s LMAO
When I joined Smash in 2006 it was less than a year until I started livestreaming events, and this is way before Twitch even existed!
I was instantly successful, gaining thousands of viewers for Brawl regionals even, and was the first tournament streaming group in Smash to get partnered on Twitch. I took this passion and made it profitable through YouTube and other unique revenue streams so I made it cost next to nothing for event organizers. I was happy breaking even at a minimum and growing something bigger and reinvesting back in the scene which is why I started sponsoring players and to prepare them for a bigger esports scene that I knew we'd be one day.
I started to take a backseat to many events and only stream PM/P+ at majors as a compromise to stay a bit active while I transitioned, and came back full force at the launch of Ultimate.
Literally from the first weekend the game came out I hit the ground running and got the first Smash tourney set to get a million views on YouTube - even after lying low for a while.
Things seemed like they were going well but about a year into Ultimate the local scene I was a part of started making my life a living hell with transphobic remarks you wouldn't believe. I tried handling it privately and it didn't work, so when I had to take it public to try and fix it the scene responded by banning me. I lost my weekly streamed event which was one of the most viewed locals nationwide, and I had to travel 90 minutes each way to another state on weeknights after work to play in locals and see my friends.
I've never said this publicly, but this was the main reason I moved to Michigan. Everything else I've said about it like lining up with my promotion at Panda is all true as well, but I couldn't admit what hurt me most.
Moving to a new region (during the pandemic at that) means I had to start over. I knew tons of ppl here, but they already had a streamer. They already had their established locals. I had to face the facts that doing my passion in the scene was likely done and I had to move on.
Lately in the past year I've had that itch to come back and show what I've got and be proud of something I know I do well.
I was scheduled to be the main streamer for a major this past year, all confirmed and working on it for months - until some unfortunate conflicts ended with me not going. I was so hurt from it and extremely close to quitting all things staff related in Smash and sticking solely to juantent and whatever game I'm focused on at the time. I felt like for those months I had overcome the odds, finally ready to return to my passion I lost during transition - and ended up absolutely crushed.
Fast forward 5 months though and I'm currently in Kansas, travel provided, streaming a Brawl tournament with all of my old equipment. MY FIRST TOURNAMENT STREAM I'VE BEEN FLOWN OUT TO IN ROUGHLY 7 YEARS!! And you know what? It still exceeds a lot of the broadcasts out there now. I learned stream software that didn't exist last time I streamed in barely an hour. I've developed new ideas and ways to improve current methods that others don't do. And I do it all as a team of ONE.
I don't mean to talk my shit, it's honestly me trying to convince myself that I'm worth it after everything I've gone through. And every bit I learn or develop, I want to share it with everyone and empower others.
This isn't the major I thought I'd do first - but it's with my favorite competitive game and one of my closest friends in the scene TOing the event and I wouldn't have it any other way.
And you know what? I'm streaming a Michigan Ultimate regional in a few weeks too now ;)
