GOOGLE TO RECRUIT HUNDREDS OF ENGINEERS TO ASSIST CLIENTS IN EMBRACING ITS AI – THE INFORMATION

I used to cover food and agriculture on Wall Street and I predicated this almost 10 years ago. Precise targeting of weeds and pests — making the use of chemicals unnecessary. Incredible to see it becoming reality.

Some thoughts on the recent stock price snap back for application SaaS and Consumer Platforms (DASH/BKNG). I don’t think it’s coincidence that it’s happening as OpenAI is perceived to be the AI loser. Here’s why: Google is benevolent dictator. They know they have to pay everyone off and keep everyone happy. It’s literally why they won their anti-trust case OpenAI, on the other hand, suffers from two things: 1. They lack all discretion and fundamentally doesn’t understand how to build an ecosystem. There was an interview with Sam A, I think on Stratechery, where he was basically like “We launched the generous version of our integrations. We can abstract these apps away whenever we want to” 2. They need a business model. And they need critical mass. That means throwing as many use cases at the wall as possible. That means putting out blog posts that say “You don’t need a CRM to do lead gen, use use us.” Or, “You can vibe code project management software” Compare that to Google, who realized BKNG is their largest customer. They came out really quickly and said “We are doing some travel stuff to help the consumer but we will never be an OTA. Never. Keep the customer satisfied. Just enough, at least And then layer on that OpenAI had the crazy idea to compete with Google AND Apple at the same time. Not exactly humble or, I would argue, self-aware in their strategy. So what would that mean for tiny little SaaS and consumer platforms. Plus, they don’t sell ads (stupidly), so they have no revenue to protect or relationships to manage. For now, it seems the market is saying: Google winning means the ecosystem stays broadly at status quo. Everybody eats. OpenAI, in their sprawling, maniacal vision, lacks the discretion to build an ecosystem, and is urgently hunting for users and use cases. These companies will be roadkill. OpenAI needs to eat everything to survive. So everything else is a loser if OpenAI wins. If OpenAI comes back on top, keep an eye on how SaaS and consumer platforms react
