MediaTek and Starlink are working together to support wireless emergency alert messages over satellite communication, helping extend critical notifications beyond traditional network coverage. Through this collaboration, more mobile users will be able to receive alerts from the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) framework, and the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning System (ETWS), providing essential communication during natural disasters and other potentially life-threatening situations. At Mobile World Congress 2026, MediaTek is demonstrating the Starlink Mobile service on a device featuring the MediaTek M90—the industry’s first 5G modem with built-in satellite capabilities. By leveraging the S-Band, Direct to Cell helps ensure timely emergency updates can reach users wherever they are. At the half way point of our visit to Bangladesh, a couple things have come into clear focus. First, nobody in Bangladesh subscribes to the narrative that the supporters of the fallen dictator are trying to portray. Of course there are problems, and these are discussed openly. But the narrative about chaos, breakdown in law and order, unchecked extremism, and terror in the minority community is clearly a construct of those whose regime ended in August and their external backers. Second, the broad outlines of the path forward are clear: there will be a consensus reached on reforms and elections will be held within the time frame agreed upon by the interim government and the political parties. Not surprisingly, what people say in private is often different from their public utterances. The next election campaign is already underway, well before the specific date is fixed. Public statements are intended to position individuals and parties prior to that date. Finally, while the initial euphoria of early August has understandably passed, Bangladesh is fundamentally changed from the pre-July period. Nobody wants to go back and there is no nostalgia for Hasina's regime. Slowly, the outlines of Bangladesh 2.0 are emerging and citizens across the political spectrum are finding their voice and exercising their freedoms--as messy and chaotic as that may appear to outside observers. I look forward to further engagements across the coming days.

Initially, Mr @realDonaldTrump's falsehood on minority attacks in Bangladesh in an attempt to reach out to Hindu voters on Diwali came like a bolt from the blue. Why bring up Bangladesh, I wondered. But then it dawned on me that it wasn’t out of character at all. Remember that he enjoys a foothold of support among Hindus in the US. And how can we forget his epic line from back in 2016? “I am a big fan of Hindu, and I am a big fan of India. Big, big fan.” There, my friends, lies the crux of the issue. The Indian government is so bothered by the ouster of Sheikh Hasina that it is leaving no stone unturned to intimidate us. ‘Hey, look, the next US president has his eyes on you, you pesky little $hits — so watch your back.’ So, should we be worried? Perhaps. Whether we like it or not, India is a force to reckon with — and the Hindu lobby is as strong as the Jewish lobby in the US. To appease Mr @narendramodi, Mr Trump might slap us on the wrist. But why should we let it? Given the relentless coverage by the Indian media on the imaginary attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh after Hasina’s ouster, the hands-off approach by the @BDMOFA missions and the @ChiefAdviserGoB press wing is rather hazardous. Our pushback should have been way more forceful. It isn’t hard for the mighty Indian media to establish a global narrative, so our silence implies complicity. Why isn’t the Bangladesh mission taking out full-page ads in Indian national papers dispelling the falsehoods? Why aren’t we taking out full-page ads on @washingtonpost or @nytimes ? Why aren’t we sending our columnists who write in foreign media to talk about it? I see no push back and this is making me uneasy. @NetraNews has done an immense story dispelling the myth, but the local media, esp. the publications perused by the diplomatic circle, not doing stories along that line? We just can’t let that narrative be embedded in people’s minds anywhere. In fact, the interim government’s approach on this issue is reminiscent of the @bdbnp78's non-action during the constant drip of factually incorrect reports by @ProthomAlo and @dailystarnews from 2001 to 2007. Those two papers’ version became BNP’s truth in most people’s minds — and has become a monkey on the party’s back to date.

Thank you, @realDonaldTrump, for acknowledging the importance of protecting minorities wherever they are, regardless of their religion. However, fact-checking is essential to understand the real situation on the ground. Just today, the Sweden-based news organization @NetraNews published a fact-checking report that sheds light on what is being circulated by certain vested groups regarding Bangladesh. Read the report here- netra.news/2024/little-ev… Ensuring accurate information is key to effectively supporting those affected and fostering peace. Diwali is a time to unite against misinformation as much as against real threats.
Donald J. Trump@realDonaldTrump

I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh, which remains in a total state of chaos. It would have never happened on my watch. Kamala and Joe have ignored Hindus across the world and in America. They have been a disaster from Israel to Ukraine to our own Southern Border, but we will Make America Strong Again and bring back Peace through Strength! We will also protect Hindu Americans against the anti-religion agenda of the radical left. We will fight for your freedom. Under my administration, we will also strengthen our great partnership with India and my good friend, Prime Minister Modi. Kamala Harris will destroy your small businesses with more regulations and higher taxes. By contrast, I cut taxes, cut regulations, unleashed American energy, and built the greatest economy in history. We will do it again, bigger and better than ever before—and we will Make America Great Again. Also, Happy Diwali to All. I hope the Festival of Lights leads to the Victory of Good over Evil!

What is particularly interesting (and concerning) about the current Jamaat-e-Islami in #bangladesh is that the stigma (and threat) that once attached to the party due to its role in supporting the Pakistan military in the 1971 independence war has significantly eroded - and that the former governing Awami League was itself responsibility for this change. Jamaat is now seen by many more people as the victim of a highly authoritarian government than as (what the Awami League government would like people to think) an anti-nationalist/anti-patriotic party posing a threat to the security/law and order of the country. The final nail in Awami League's narrative came when the government sought to blame the post July 16th violence and law enforcement killings on the Jamaat (and the BNP) and then as an attempt to solidify these absurdly false accusations, to ban the Jamaat as a party claiming it to be a terrorist organisation. People realised this not to be true, and that for the Awami League, the Jamaat had just become a punchbag which the party sought to blame everything on. For those who want a more secular Bangladesh, the current upswing of the Jamaat is very troubling, particularly because there is no really secular party to challenge it. It is interesting to note that ten years earlier in the very place where the 2024 student protests started, there were the huge 2013 student Shahbagh protests that called for the execution of Jamaat leaders following their conviction for 1971 war crimes at the International Crimes Tribunal. Ten years seems an awfully long time ago, though the thirst for the death penalty - now against Awami League politicians - has it seems not been assuaged. theprint.in/opinion/bangla…

It is not just the Bangladesh prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, in trouble. The Daily Mail reports that her niece Tulip Siddiq, a UK MP and junior Labour government minister, has just been reported to the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner for failing to declare income from a London rental property for more than a year. I think this could be a developing story! dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
