As Chair of Majority Democrats, I spoke with South Carolina Democrats about faith, family and the flag and what 2028 contenders need to know to win this early primary state.

The president is going to lie about the midterms, like he lies about every election, and Democrats must not be caught off guard. That requires fortifying state & local officials & electoral processes under pressure, which is already under way; and it requires pre-butting the administration's gaslighting about vote tabulation to inoculate the American public against lies. Best of all would be passing the Bivens Act to hold federal officials liable for constitutional violations against citizens, but the Republican majority almost certain to oppose that expansion of freedom and due process.

Americans trust the military because it's proficient and apolitical. This president is trying to launder his reputation through that trust. It's a threat to the military's standing with the public.

We have to use every tool in our toolbox to keep our streets secure, Cleveland Mayor @JustinMBibb says. Activists have pushed against using new tech. Because of ShotSpotter and a crime gun intelligence center, we had an 80% homicide solved rate. We can keep people safe and protect our civil liberties. A friend in Israel is my age with a young family. They are in a bomb shelter with an infant & children right now. He tells me — ‘morale is high; we’re exhausted & worse but in it to win it. And we feel fellowship profoundly with the Americans; we are part of something bigger than us.’ It’s a fellowship of free people, and one that I hope Iranians themselves may join after decades of brutal repression.

Wars that start in the air don’t necessarily end there. The president is raising open-ended questions that Congress must answer.
