It's a very bad look for New York Times management that its CEO has received a 73% pay increase over the past two years while the Times is offering a wage increase far below inflation to the 1,000+ journalists who make the Times the great news organization that it is

In an all-hands today, our C.E.O. said it would be irresponsible to use the $250 million the company just authorized in buybacks for Guild salaries because the costs would compound. Barely a third of that would cover the Guild’s economic proposals over the life of the contract.

Some #s for contrast: -The $65,000 salary floor we're seeking for all Guild members would cost the company less than $1 million a year more -Our CEO's RAISE last year was $1.4 million. Her *raise* alone would pay for that $65,000 salary floor.

@ainajkhan that really sucks!! I’m sorry that’s been your experience. fwiw, the “numbers game” thing resonates with me. I’ve had friends spend years dating (mainly on Hinge) then one person just works. and you do learn a lot along the way, but it can be exhausting

Meredith Kopit Levien, the CEO of the @nytimes, was paid $5.8 million in 2021, up from $4.4 million in 2020. Meanwhile, management has offered @NYTimesGuild employees a paltry raise (which, in light of inflation, amounts to a pay cut) and fought against a $65,000 minimum salary.

If you see someone's name on a story on Thursday or Friday, it does not necessarily mean they crossed the picket line to write it. Newspapers often have reporters write portions of stories ahead of time when possible.
