Jalview Jalview is a free cross-platform program for multiple sequence alignment editing, visualisation and analysis. Use it to align, view and edit sequence alignments, analyse them with phylogenetic trees and principal components analysis (PCA) plots and explore molecular structures and annotation. Jalview has built in DNA, RNA and protein sequence and structure visualisation and analysis capabilities, and provides a linked view of aligned DNA and Protein products. It uses Jmol to view 3D structures,jmol.sourceforge.net and VARNA to display RNA secondary structure,varna.lri.fr and can also use Chimera,cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/ ChimeraX cgl.ucsf.edu/chimerax/ and Pymol pymol.org/2/ for 3D structure visualisation. Experimental and predicted (eg alphafold and swiss-model) 3D structures for proteins can be automatically discovered via the 3D-Beacons network,ebi.ac.uk/pdbe/pdbe-kb/3… and sequences and alignments retrieved from databases hosted at EMBL-EBI.ebi.ac.uk The Jalview Desktop also provides a graphical interface to the alignment and analysis services provided by the JavA Bioinformatics Analysis Web Services framework.compbio.dundee.ac.uk/jabaws/ 🔗jalview.org

2024 was a fun year for us at Jalview! We've been busy, so here's a little 'scrapbook' for you to see all the exciting things we got up to last year. 📆

And here's a wee photo of the artist, Poppy (right) and @KhadijasVoice (left) from our team who tutored her for this piece, hanging out at the exhibition.

This A1 sized piece by @DJCAD student, Poppy Gilfillan, is a mandala-collage that explores the interconnectedness of all life forms, including homologous proteins that Jalview provides alignment capabilities for.

Last week saw art inspired by Jalview debut at the 2024 undergraduate Art, Science and Visual Thinking exhibition in @UoDLifeSciences @LifeSpaceDundee art gallery.
